I am happy with my Lightning. Range does not bother me for my use. The ride is incredible. My only issue was I wouldn't consider taking trips in it as charging network is ridiculous. Now with Tesla's fantastic charging network soon to be available to me I see no reason people shouldn't consider it vs ICE truck, unless you tow heavy, often and far.
Some reasons why the Lighting may not compare favorably:

1) You value toughness.
2) You value efficiency
3) You value handling dynamics
4) You value safety
5) You value longevity
6) You value a good user interface
7) You value value

Some reasons why the Lighting may compare favorably:

1) it exists
2) like a spouse, they may not check every box, but they’re a keeper
3) irritates fanbois
4) your wardrobe taste leaves no room for another “hey look at me” purchase
5) paying sales taxes twice is for libs
6) your spirit animal is Chris Farley
7) on second thought, you don’t need a bed-mounted minigun and an urban camo “Joe Rogan is My Copilot” bumper sticker
8) you’re holding out for this:

Tesla is the equivalent of Apple among auto manufacturers. They have one hell of a following who won’t even considering purchasing a similar product from the competition.

Just look at the demographic of attendees at every public Tesla event. Affluent and white collar. Now matter how superior the Cybertruck is to the competition most blue collar workers won’t even consider purchasing an CT even if it’s affordable.
That is the problem with Apple. Even when it's a superior product, a superior price point, has a lower TCO, longer life... People don't believe it. (And it has been, and isn't always, but it's enough of those I've stuck by Apple for twenty years and six computers and a decade of maintaining out of date macs professionally for a nonprofit)

Very true. I'll be fortunate to keep both for a while to be sure in my decision because the Lightning is that good.
I don't see a world where it is better then the Cybertruck though. It should be the most profound step change a truck has ever had.
I'm most excited about FSD. What it could mean financially, what it could mean for transport for myself and my family, what it could mean for me as I get up into my 80's/90's and my driving starts to suck and I can depend on the Cybertruck to get me too and fro and allow me to stay independent.

(too and fro probably should not be used when making a point about a truck) My apologize.

77 is much closer to 80 than 60. It's closer to 80 than the top trim of the Cybertruck was revealed at.

If they can sell the CT for that much less than the X, I will be very surprised. I hope they can, but it is hard to imagine the CT costing less to make than the X.

Yep, everyone wants to believe the hype of the under $40,000 work truck. Funny how Tesla said it, then Ford, now Chevy. But it doesn’t exists but we keep drinking the red sugar water and ??!

So when they priced out the Cybertruck in 2019 and the price was less, far less then the X was it an accounting error at Tesla, ignorant guess, or bold face lie?

Yes, but you are curating this response to ignore the point of his argument... That there actually are cheaper truck options currently available:

So the 70-80k price tag is still excessive for middle of the road blue collar customers.

EV industry likes to ignore that their pricing has to compete with pricing of what the majority of customers can afford, not the premium market, before they are widely embraced.

Premium pricing works fine while they are material constrained, but at some point that has to end and they need to pierce the mirage they created for themselves on what is affordable for the average buyer.

CT initial pricing did that. The reservation response confirms what many people find a value. Start deviating from that excessively and you are back to low sales numbers.

Tesla is the only one that can choose to hit the affordable mark if they so choose. We're all waiting to see if they make the right decision!

CT is a truck. Sold in U.S., it should have a much higher volume than X so it can afford to have lower margin. It does not have paint or complications of a fancy door. The question is if Tesla will keep the price as low as they can to maintain volume from the get go or they will start with high price until they run out of high margin sales and then they lower it.

Yes but this particular 4WT is the top available electric WT trim they’re offering, and it’s available only to fleet sales.

So thankfully middle of road blue collar workers couldn’t purchase this truck even if they wanted to.

But if their lucky, their employer will provide them this highest available trim level in its fleet, rather than the lower, cheaper trim level.

And there’s good reasons some companies would choose this sort of top available electric WT trim over the cheaper electric WT trims available - or any ICE GM WT available.

I like the work truck better, don't care about useless frills of the RST and I would never want 24" tires on an EV truck. That Midgate on the RST is the only worthwhile feature but not worj $100k

The $79k Price keeps it under 80K so you get the rebate so its $71.5K for a 450 mile ev..

This makes me feel more confident that the 500 mile CT tri motor will still be under $80K

This is definitly my fall back truck if the 500 mile CT price is over 80K

You may very well be right. I guess it will depend on a few factors: (1) just how functional the CT is, (2) the actual range and charging efficiency, and (3) the initial price and long term cost of operation. In there is no gap or a small one then you are right; why change. But if there is a wide gap, and especially if there is a wide gap across all three metrics, then there will be people that will jump ship and, over time, they will influence others if there remains a gap. So a lot of this depends on Tesla’s technological lead and how long it lasts. But without a doubt your initial statement is true.

I would like to mention, though, that, like politicians at political rallies, Tesla seems to pack its audience rather than to let a random group of people come - but even those that are ’randomly’ selected are usually stock owners so that is a filter in its own right.
