Dude, I personally think this Chevy offer is quite good. I call Chevy "Shitvrolet" myself and do not trust it, but kudos to them for getting a higher range "tow monster" out quicker than the big Cyber dragon in the cave.

I hope everyone can afford a Cybertruck, and that the wait wasn't worthless. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a similar price with a little more range from Tesla.

Tough to say how they spin this.... hmmmm
If the price is similar to the Silverado EV, I’ll be buying an ICE truck or just get me a new Benz. These prices are just proving the tech to value proposition is just not there yet. Could be another 10+ years before it’s a sensible purchase.. unless cybertruck comes out swinging and hits its initial price points.. I fear there will be a major contraction in interest.

To put what I am about to say in perspective; I have owned cars for 3.5 decades and until 6 months ago never paid over $11K for a car and I have been very happy with my ride for most of that time. So I understand when people say these trucks are expensive but times have changed. Look at another car with a lot less capability and similar range and tell me if $78K for a 450 mile tuck still sounds expensive:

Came here to say the same.

$77k is way out of my range. So... It looks good, it sounds like they've found lots of places to save energy from their 'watts to freedom' idiocy, so it'll manage a good towing range, and that's what they should launch. Because when there's just one truck, it'll be weiighed and measured against every ICE truck, especially those in its price range.

I'mma gonna hafta tell the dealer this is way beyond what I can pay, tho.

It is subsidized. We used to subsidize education, too, but coming in with a good loan at the right time is bailing out.

Yes, your government loan for your house was subsidized by the government. Bail outs and government intervention is not bad when it gets us what we want as a society.

The 4WT is only available as a fleet vehicle anyway but the Silverado-e will be expensive.

79k wow indeed.
Kyle’s video review suggested that the testers were getting 450 miles and that regular drivers might get 500 or more. And why are you moaning about $80k? The Silverado has some great features. At least we have some specs and reviews on this vehicle. I love the CT as much as anyone but I see no reason to criticize the Silverado for this one feature.

I bet there will be a lot of disappointed people when the Cybertruck pricing and options are released.

Cybertruck engineer estimates are 200 kWh needed to go 500 miles.
That is 145.8 kWh to go 100 miles @ 60 MPH over a very modest 1% grade.

Yes and discussions here about “blue collar” buyers etc seem to miss thus - or how the fleet sales model works

yes there are “fleet” sales of 6 trucks to the local bakery, here’s the keys

but then there fleet-fleet ecosystems, which presumably these will be directed towards. These fleet ecosystems are cash cows, with various long-term recurring subscription fees for things like mobile service, commercial service centers, service plans, integrated fleet monitoring software and administrative back office, telematics, invoicing platforms, and for EV’s a whole parallel charging ecosystem of services and charge station installation (both at L2 employees homes, and L3 at client business depots) and upkeep

and with all that, comes fleet sales negotiation

if you’re buying into say all the services above, plus buying 400 of these 4WTs, the per-unit price is a line item in a fungible suite of cash that gets negotiated toward a headline all-in price

folks are off from the jump to be thinking of these fleet vehicle prices in retail terms

I continue to see news saying GM is ready to go bankrupt in China and their status in the US isn't that good either. I know Ford was bailed out recently but don't remember them being bailed out the first time when GM was bailed out. There's no reason for the US to bail out GM again so I have to wonder whether GM will even be able to make these trucks in a significant amount.
Ford was not bailed out recently.
whoever told you that carries a 24th chromosome around and im pretty suspect of the party of the receiving end of that statement as well

The Silverado (with midgate) is a compelling truck. But this pricing/trim level situation makes it a no-go.

About the pricing situation:
GM, Ford, Rivian...they don't seem to have any intention on selling an EV truck at a reasonable price. Probably because they aren't making money off these things.

I think Elon intends to sell cybertrucks at a reasonable price. He could earn the respect of truck driving Americans pretty quickly if the CT was priced 10K less than the competition and offered the same (or better) features. CT would become the clear leader in the EV truck space. Long term, this cements Tesla's lead as an all-around auto manufacturer. Even if Tesla doesn't make major profits from the CT (which Elon has already said they won't), it will be very good for Tesla to prove they're not just for tech bros.

OR, he could price the CT in line with the competition, let's say 80-100k. Far fewer CT's will sell, and it will be looked at as a flop.
Elon said they were pricing the Cybertruck to be competitive with ICE trucks with similar features. Tesla no bones to pick with other BEVs. I do not know what similar-featured IcE trucks cost but in 2019 when the Cybertruck was unveiled people seemed to think that it was a competitive price. Whatever it is I suspect that Tesla will try to maintain that edge.

CT in 2026?

Tesla is the equivalent of Apple among auto manufacturers. They have one hell of a following who won’t even considering purchasing a similar product from the competition.

Just look at the demographic of attendees at every public Tesla event. Affluent and white collar. Now matter how superior the Cybertruck is to the competition most blue collar workers won’t even consider purchasing an CT even if it’s affordable.

Edit. This is the the 2023 work truck ICE.. and I selected all the work truck packages

Wasn’t really the point/joke Inwas making, but if you want to double click

First, the 4WT reviewed and priced here in this thread is the highest end version with the largest battery pack.

So let’s start your ICE WT equivalent with the highe end as well - which if you think you selected all the packages you appear mistaken:

Tesla Roadster 2nd gen The Competition: 2024 Silverado EV Reviews Are In D03B8860-12AF-4B69-88C0-781683E12C4A

So now we’re at a delta of let’s call it $25K.

Still a lot, but let’s keep clicking:
  • Don’t forget your rebate of $7,500, now we’re at $17.5K delta
  • Even the higher end 2023 “work truck” ICE has nearly zero technology incorporated, whereas the 4WT comes standard with a lot of added technology - we don’t have the full list, but just the videos evidence what would like be at least $5K worth of additional tech not available on other WT models - now we’re down to $12.5K delta
  • The 2023 “work truck” ICE you cite is a retail unit for Joe Blow, whereas the 4WT is a fleet management vehicle (see post a few above - you can’t compare fleet pricing with retail pricing in straightforward ways), so now all kinds of things lay in its favor, including only some of which:
    • Reduced fleet fuel costs
    • Reduced fleet maintenance costs
    • Increases fleet management telemetrics (typically an added cost and equipment on ICE vehicles)
    • Internal and external corporate goodwill for ESG milestone meeting
    • Etc.
    • Etc.

So, if you’re a corporate fleet purchaser buying say 200 of these things, you’re down to an around $10K cash premium per vehicle compared to a similarly equipped WT option

Then your internal corporate fleet management group, plus your corporate ESG group, get ahold of their spreadsheets and the next thing you know each of these trucks are within 1.6 years going to pay for that delta in fuel/maintenance/telemetry etc. fleet management costs, after which point they begin to only increase in value compared to an ICE equivalent

And the above Chevy knows, and has priced into their model.

Meanwhile, if you’re Chevy you know you’re not going to be making more than 40-50K of these per year, so it doesn’t take too many of the right fleet buyers to get you there.

These trucks are not for you/retail; they are fleet vehicles, and in fleet this 4WT model is the equivalent of the highest trim retail version of a 1500

Chevy will sell every one of the relatively few it makes in the next few years - in sales batches of 100, 200, 2,000, etc. - and their corporate fleet buyers will have made a reasonable choice given the universe of their goals, and the likely choice limitation of their already deeply embedded GM fleet management ecosystem
