I have a Pixel 9 with a phone case, and it gets pretty warm when I leave it on the wireless charger. When I use the hotspot continuously, it gets seriously hot (I need to keep charging the phone as it uses a lot of power).
The other day, my wife's Pixel 7 got so hot that her Tesla keycard stored inside the phone case melted and fused within the case. She could not get her card out and I almost had to pry the case open to get the card out. It burnt a hole in the plastic portion of the keycard where it stores the chip. This is crazy.

For preventative measures, I now use a phone holder and place the phone in front of the vent to keep it cool, but it defeats the purpose of just being able to 'drop in the phone', where now I have to stick it in the holder and then plug it in.

On a side note, I envy BYD's wireless charger, which has air flow around the charger to keep the phone cool.

Not confined to just the phone. I have had two Tesla shop battery packs replaced by them for warping from the extreme heat they generate.
haven’t been able to get the service center to do shit about it except send an email to Tesla shop and get me a replacement.

So someone who I trust and is very knowledgeable about electrical engineering explained to me that the heat is significantly higher when the charging part and the part being charged aren’t exactly aligned and that the problem on most chargers can be improved by adjusting the location/position of whatever you’re charging.
I wonder if an aftermarket spacer/positioner of some kind specific to the phone or battery would help.
Don’t know how to figure out where the part in question is on the charging pad to test that theory though.

I have a zfold5 and I can confirm this to an extent. If in open the phone and lay it flat out it charges fine, but if I leave it in folded mode it cooks. I just use a super fast charger cord for hot days plugged into the 110 in the center console.

Hopefully they give us some more refined controls for it in the future.

Known issue. Sucks as now mine is a glorified sunglasses holder.

Same. never thought I would need something like this but it does cut down on the phone heating.

The cybertruck one is currently unavailable on Amazon, but I'm sure they will restock at some point. Bonus is that it's super easy to remove and clean. Coming on five months of use now, no issues.

This helps exactly 0.
the reason for the heating is misalignment and camera bumps.
