If it handles propulsion, then why isn't the part covered under the battery and powertrain warranty?

I would be leaning heavily on reported electrical issues that were discovered prior to the warranty expiration.

Because Tesla, in all their wisdom, designated the PCS2 as part of the “mid voltage system” and not the “high voltage/drivetrain”, therefore its only covered under the basic vehicle warranty for the CT.
whats wild is Tesla now has an “high priced propulsion parts” warranty that is included with all vehicles EXCEPT for CT.

I think they will change this if enough people push back hard. The fact of the matter is that the truck cannot move without a functional PCS.

They need to fix this.

I dont think they will suddenly decide it is an HV/DT part even though it directly interfaces with those components AND the truck is a brick without it, but i do think its possible they expand the warranty coverage for NEW purchases to include the 7 yr/70,000 mile propulsion parts warranty they offer to other vehicles. They may issues an “As a thank you for being an early adopter” “extended warranty” for existing owners, but i doubt that. They'd rather you buy a new truck, but frankly ive been surprised by Teslas “good will gestures” in the past.

The service advisor said if it was the known issue it would be free but now my app just asked me to approve this estimate! I’m reaching out to the SC.

if they refuse I say start a GoFundMe to cover shipping to Tesla Austin and have it dropped off at the front door with “PCS Failure” painted all over it. Then take a pic and post it to X. Hilarity will ensue.

Im sure there are some influencers and Fnews outlets that would love to fund a project like that. Tbh im surprised no one has picked up on this pcs thing yet. Ive seen one thread on tesla motor forum and another on FB but thats it

Ya. Have you seen the process for PCS replacement? Its not like its a camera burning out where they simply pop the old one out and snap a new one in kind of job. It requires disassembly of the bed, tonneau, air compressor, draining battery coolant. It requires specialized tools, and diagnostic software. Its a BIG EXPENSIVE job to replace a SYSTEM CRITICAL component! This is not a repair that can be done in your driveway. This is not something that should be failing! It is a solid state electronic module. There are no moving parts, there are no wear components. It should last the lifetime of the vehicle. If it fails its because it was manufactured with a defect or because the design of the part is flawed.

I’m curious if the PCS units that are getting replaced are a new part number?

Are there any warning signs of PCS failing? Like not being able to charge at 48 amps, and being limited to 32 amps.

It's not a battery and powertrain warranty, it's a battery and drive unit warranty

Pretty sad that they made it so complicated. The swap on an S was lifting up seats, draining coolant and a swap. One had to go into the gateway to configure, but much easier on techs.

The replacement time for Cybertruck PCS is 4.2 hours which is less than the 2021+ Model S time of 4.62 hours.

If the Cybertruck was a three row SUV, it would be under the seat, but the aux bay is under the tonneau roll up mechanism. So cover and air tank need removed.
