it's so crazy that FSD will hit any non-moving object, especially at low speeds. Honestly, this is the biggest downfall of a full-AI system, there should be some kind of actual software that stops this.

Well I got a little too confident with the whole fsd parking in my garage.

spent the day with my son on errands and watching the truck go and park for us. It took us home and instead of pulling into the driveway it turned around to back in… we watched in amazement as it slowly backed up … then boom… contact with my house.

and as it made contact it maintained backwards pressure as I hit the brake. So I pulled forward and to my disappointment the truck made contact rear left corner with the garage pillar and fascia.

so a few notes:

- yes I was overconfident in fsd.
- when the truck backed into the garagethe side mirrors folded back so I didn’t have the side mirror view but the pillar cameras were working. (as they do when I park head in first)
- damage to back quarter panel, wrap, rear bumper and facia.

I’ll fix the wrap easily but the bumper looks slightly chewed up.

Most of the time I'm on edge with FSD on and I monitor it closely, I have to say with V14 I did find myself getting just a slight bit compliant because it was way better than 13 for me. Thanks for the reminder and thankfully the damage was some scratches and plastic only.
I feel your pain!!! At least yours was FSD. Mine was me pulling out of driveway. It cost me $2500 from Tesla because they had to replace the qrt panel and redo the wrap!! I hit it so hard it bent the panel.

Tesla Cybertruck FSD parking oops (hit house reversing into garage)… yes I know I’m supervising IMG_3931

Ouch! I have some bent steel on the bottom quarter panel as well. It’s pretty solid stuff!

bummer...I think it's also the perfect storm of the auto-fold mirrors at home and fsd being too confident. the auto fold is so convenient but there are times when it's tight and I want to use them and they're already folded and I am too lazy to stop, open the menu, and unfold them

Possibly the Sun's light shining directly on the garage? Maybe it created reflection that confused the camera "contrast" of space and brick? I'm guessing of course, but the Sun is shining directly at the garage opening.

Not sure if it's CT specific, but it baffles me how confidently it can drive in suburban traffic and then completely shit the bed when it comes to parking. 4 wheel steer makes lining up into a spot a total joke, yet there have already been a few of us that have sustained damage from FSDs dogwater parking lot performance.

Anyone not brainwashed can see: FSD is not 99% of the way there. The all-encompassing scope and confidence of such a statement signals ignorance. EVERY SINGLE COMPANY in the self driving space (including Tesla) has a defined ODD and is geo-fenced, but somehow our $8K software package is nearly ready to handle all weather/speeds/situations? 🤣

Straight up the worst part of the forum is the double think: "it can totally drive itself anywhere, but any mistakes are your responsibility...but Ewon said texting and driving in a few months so hold tight".

It's a cowardly practice to not take responsibility for FSD's actions when good-faith actors are experiencing damage as a result of its failures. FSD deserves credit when it does well and should equally be ridiculed for crashing into a contrasting paint wall/garage door entrance.

@Mark805 please don't drink the Kool-aid on this one. Straight up FSD's fault, Tesla won't do anything because you're not an influencer, just repair it and stay vigilant. Personally I'm done using it in parking lots and if Summon/Banish is released I wouldn't use that without Tesla explicitly taking responsibility for any harm resulting from it. I'm not going to court/jail for a company that is top 10 in the S&P.

On a positive note, Tesla's online parts service and free repair documentation is honestly amazing. Used them twice now, only crap part is shipping costs.

After alarming grinding noises on an icy morning, my mirrors are off auto-fold for the season. YMMV.

Sorry that happened. I’m pretty disappointed with parking on FSD and the manual help too. The lines on the screen when backing up and the overhead view are poor.

When you first use FSD, it tells you it will do the worst thing at the worst time and to always pay attention.

This is not a finished product. You are still the driver, even if FSD feels like it can do everything, it can't. At any given time it could make a massive mistake and you are responsible to take over.

There have been multiple accidents with Robotaxi and it has remote supervision and a safety driver. The safety driver is supposed to stop the car when it's doing something wrong...The product has gotten better over the years, but it's not finished. In a few years, when FSDU is available to all, then we go after Tesla if there's an incident, but until then it's Level 2, which means it's in the same category as Adaptive Cruise Control with lane assist.

We are officially bros. My CT, Hideo, also has a very minor scratch on the same side and same place as you. It was my mistake though. I was trying to climb a steep driveway without turning on off-road / Slippery mode in deep snow, my truck slipped and the rear grinded against the retaining wall. Mine was minor, therefore I think of it as a battle-wound / scar - kinda makes it look badass. In your case, let me know what you end up doing - I'm pretty sure it should be able to be buffed out? I'm curious how one would go about patching this without requesting SC to replace the whole panel.

Ok I’m beating this to death but here’s footage from my house… this was completely in FSD.

also for future reference, in this case you would not want to cut the wheel when pulling away as that only makes it dig harder into the object of impact (due to the departure angle), making it worse.

I just don't understand how Tesla doesn't assume liability when their software is in control. I don't like the prospect of one day paying for fsd and when it makes a mistake...
It would be beneficial for you to read all of the terms of service for using FSD. It explicitly states that you are still responsible for the safe operation of your vehicle.

When Tesla releases level 5 autonomy (and it's approved through the massive hurdles of red-tape), they will be assuming liability for mistakes made by the software. until then, the onus is completely on the person in the driver's seat; and Tesla has been exceedingly clear about that.

Yes I picked up on that after I pulled it off the house. I turned the wheel because it was pressed into the house. But I agree, turning the wheel on separating the CT from my house facia contributed to damage. I should have taken a photo before I moved it.

quite a few lessons learned for sure. Now to fix my bumper.
