What the flip are Cantrails?
The fix involves welding a stud to the stainless. This is not something that can be done as a rework. Even if it could, a wrap would not survive the process.Consider; Tesla CHOSE to fully replace the Cantrails - and NOT repair them. - by its own reckoning/decision. This was not forced upon them by DOT - they had to propose a remediation to the problem. They could rebond the rails that you have on your CT.
#9 and #10 in the diagram. What the flip are Cantrails?
It is clear cut, allow me to demonstrate:I do not think it is a clear cut as that.
Insurance policies cover incidents, and they attempt to return your vehicle back to previous conditions before the wreck. In some cases, if you add expensive aftermarket items and fail to inform your insurance company, they can deny the claim. For example where vehicle repair is done for accidents - the industry has 'restored' the vehicle to the condition is was prior to the accident, wrap, custom rims, tires and all.
Actually, this recall was caused more so by their supplier giving them the wrong type/specification of glue; which is why it failed much more often in cold climates. Telsa is just using this opportunity to improve upon the original design. And good on them for doing so.Further, this is a design oversight by Tesla and a very odd one
The fact that Tesla is replacing instead of rebonding has nothing to do with restoring your vehicle back to factory state.Consider; Tesla CHOSE to fully replace the Cantrails - and NOT repair them. - by its own reckoning/decision. This was not forced upon them by DOT - they had to propose a remediation to the problem. They could rebond the rails that you have on your CT.
This doesn't make sense. Tesla wouldn't be on the hook for replacing your after-market seat-belts. They would be on the hook for replacing their OEM seat belts with updated seatbelts that satisfy the recall requirement. If they had to replace the seatbelt for instance which is a DOT safety item: they can't replace your red seatbelts with black and say 'deal with it' and the loss of values because your M5 Competition plus -with factory Red/Black interior is now missing the red special edition seat belts...cause they don't make them anymore.
Tesla sold you the vehicle in good faith. And they are complying with the recall standards. The customer should not bear the burden of a mistake made by Tesla. I purchased my CT in good faith of merchantability and compliance with those regulatory standards it has to comply with.
Yes they would lol. They would either complete the wrap for that section, or they would remove it completely.Mismatched color body panels clearly results in a loss of value. Tesla would not take your CT in trade-in with bare rails when the rest of the body is wrapped.
Most likely so, because Tesla is the one who sold the wrap. Tesla has no duty whatsoever to replace your aftermarket or 3rd party parts or accessories. Also, Tesla sold factory wrapped CT's so are they going to hump those owners?
Show us in your purchase contract where Tesla is on the hook for replacing your aftermarket accessories in the event of a part recall.I wish more people and workers understood basic contract laws. Media and industry has promoted that the 'little guy' gets humped - that we assume that is the way it should be, accept that, then we complain on social media and get clicks...
Tesla asked me to hold off on the wrap until Cantrail was replaced and would extend the wrap install date until after it was done. So I would message Tesla to get top of list for replacement.I just tried to schedule my fix here in Halifax and was told by Service Center they can not do anything until Tesla arranges with them directly.
I have received the email from Tesla confirming my vehicle is affected, but nothing yet telling me to bring my vehicle in.
I was provided a wrap back in Jan as an "incentive" to purchase my vehicle - but have held off since because of this recall. Had finally bit the bullet and scheduled wrap for this week as no idea if/when fix coming but then saw this thread and tried to book.
I have to say - this whole thing has been handled so poorly. No communication/ accommodation, just pay 150-200k for a vehicle that within weeks made me scared to drive with my kids in public, then provide a wrap as an incentive that you can never install for a defective part that has to be fixed but won't provide any idea as to when.
This brand keeps getting better and better!
the top most panel of stainless steel on either side of the car is for some reason called a cantrail. They have a tendency to come flying off. What the flip are Cantrails?
I'm not sure what else to tell you to help you understand this situation. The cantrails aren't a part that can be reasonably modified in place to satisfy the constraints of the remedy. They have to replace the whole part.Again, this what courts are for. I think they are.
Going down the path of 'modifying' your car, so a warranty brake job would be void because you have non-OEM rims and tires?. They have to remove them - then -- what --- they'd only put factory tires and rims on?, what about locking lugs - you voided your warranty?
That’ll be enough of that salty language! Settle down, Moss! What the flip are Cantrails?
Name me one single person who paid TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS for a Cybertruck. No communication/ accommodation, just pay 150-200k for a vehicle that within weeks made me scared to drive with my kids in public
????Name me one single person who paid TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS for a Cybertruck.
Not 200K, and also those prices are post-tariff, and buying anything new right now would be a moot point for the cantrails because that has already been corrected at the factory.????
$167,000 CAD (pre-tax) for FS/CB.
All right! Hold your fire. I don’t have s dog in this hunt. I only came here for Moss memes! Not 200K, and also those prices are post-tariff, and buying anything new right now would be a moot point for the cantrails because that has already been corrected at the factory.
Was it that or poor surface prep?Actually, this recall was caused more so by their supplier giving them the wrong type/specification of glue; which is why it failed much more often in cold climates. Telsa is just using this opportunity to improve upon the original design. And good on them for doing so.
Could be a combination, but most likely the root cause was the wrong glue being supplied. Was it that or poor surface prep?
My cold weather cantrails are doing fine, 10k VIN.
