Yep! Alcohol and drugs don’t mix with anything. An entire generation of youth is now enslaved to these things. If there are three words that can ruin someone’s life, it’s “just one drink”!

"Piedmont Fire Chief Dave Brannigan said the day after the crash that the speed in extinguishing was indicative that the Cybertruck’s large lithium-ion battery had not caught fire, describing the incident as “more along the lines of a typical car fire.”"

So the Fire Chief said the fire was not caused by main battery. What would have caused the fire if not the main battery?

Likely the 48V small battery, right up front.

I feel for the parents and relatives. I lost a 15 year old brother to a car accident- it was horrible. And just lost a 19 year old nephew a few months ago - hit while crossing the road in a cross walk.

Imagine being the parent that gave them the Cyber Truck - not a vehicle for any teenager - and money to party with.

Just a few blocks from out house a kid was speeding in Dad's new Cadillac Lyriq, lost control and hit the stop light pole. Car disintegrated. Sad. But again, why let a 17 year old drive such a vehicle at 10:30 at night. Of course he would have his phone on and making a TikTok video or whatnot to show off. That is what teenagers do. And this was a "good" kid.

My teen daughter is a very responsible driver. She drives our RWD 3 - already a pretty fast vehicle. I would never let her drive the AWD Y. And I would never buy anything faster than that.

If she is as responsible as you say, there is no significant downside to having more acceleration than you will use. You can always put it on chill (but I think that's pretty silly considering the brake over-rides the throttle).

Good judgement, followed by good driving skills, trumps everything.

It is so well established that alcohol/drugs in the driver greatly increases the chance of an accident that I hardly think we need a lesson, everyone knows this, even if they chose to live dangerously by ignoring it.

It would be like two cavemen sitting around the fire lamenting the loss of their brother after he fell off an 800-foot cliff. One says to the other, "This is just a good lesson that human bodies, and falling from great heights don't mix."

This was not about respecting or not respecting the Cybertruck speed. Impaired driving was responsible for this tragedy.

Well in they were Toyota Corolla they probably made the curve . A Corolla never made what it could do .And they would have been going as fast so easy . Then what I said earlier . Cybertruck if faster then it feels. All it was his I heard first time driving it. Your not full adjusted to the steering at faster speeds. And till you done it before then you find out what it can do. The alcohol and drugs is a given.

Many are forgetting this vehicle was more than likely owned and loaned by the parents.
No matter how responsible you feel your children may be there is settings within the app that could’ve limited the speed the teenager could drive the Cybertruck.

Noted also how although factual, the article just had to include the statement “burst into flames” for FUD effect. How often do we see this when it’s an ICE vehicle wreck or non Tesla EV accident?

If someone jumps off a bridge do you blame the bridge?

I don't blame the bridge, but this is becoming more common in a society that is increasingly reluctant to blame anyone for anything. Now they string cables and nets just to try to prevent people from jumping off (as if they can't commit suicide using any other means). They need to treat the causes, not the symptoms.

This new wokeness has unleashed wave after wave of ridiculously illogical thinking.

The Cybertruck’s regenerative braking causes deadly o̶v̶e̶r̶s̶t̶e̶e̶r̶ understeer in a panic situation. As a long time RWD ICE driver I learned this the hard way in the Cybertruck. Thankfully it only resulted in me hopping a curb, but I learned a valuable lesson: ALWAYS keep your foot on the throttle if you don’t want to brake.

With RWD ICE, you can threshold brake and then just keep your foot off the gas to do emergency evasive maneuvers. In the Cybertruck, the regenerative braking causes massive o̶v̶e̶r̶s̶t̶e̶e̶r̶ understeer with loss of traction in the front wheels.

I mention this because this accident and others hint at o̶v̶e̶r̶s̶t̶e̶e̶r̶ understeer causing a loss of control and a collision. Yes, drugs+alcohol+speed, and this truck has some unique handling dynamics.

Losing regen is annoying, and requires more brake pedal pressure - but in a Cybertruck you have anti-lock and so should apply as much pressure as needed to stop, always. In almost no situations is it the wrong choice to apply up to maximum braking as required (so basically, only off-road situations should you try to out-think anti-lock).
