I am sorry, I just don’t get it. The rear view camera view on factory display seems to be good enough, in fact I turn off the rear camera view 99% of the time. If I do look to rear while driving I use side mirrors. cant justify $500 for add-on cameras.
For me personally its a night and day difference and the one accessory id buy again in a heart beat. I had a lot of trouble adjusting to the screen rear view and like OP any time it rained or got dirty it was useless. The rear camera mounted on the roof solved all of those problems for me. Its a great product for my needs and I did the opposite of you and turned off the rear view on the screen and prefer having more real estate for the other views. It works great for my needs.

Here was my solution, but I'm working a better solution, still planning things out, was planning on using an iPad mini as the mirror, but I've found 4k ultra wide displays that might work. I'll make a post once I figure it all out.

Why do you need a video rearview mirror? The screen has a very nice rear view camera that shows everything behind you perfectly. Had my truck since early Foundation release. I removed the wimpy little rear view mirror the first day snd never missed it for a second,

In my experience installing a rearview camera old fashioned mirror thing is a waste of money time and adds nothing to driving safety or even convenience.

You’re stuck in the past.

Now that I can stare at the screen using FSD without getting reprimanded by the system- Looking at the screens rearview camera is not a problem / and I can make the rearview take up the entire screen if I want.

Try driving using only the built in rearview camera image on the screen and it will become obvious that nothing else is needed….
I have to disagree. The wide angle view that is presented on the screen does not give a rearward view that is anything like what you see in an actual rear view mirror. And that view disappears anytime you are using a turn signal. I realize that the standard cameras on all of the aftermarket mirror screens are also very wide angle, but I am modifying the Hansshow camera with an 8mm focal length lens, that gives a much more 'natural' viewing perspective.

Oh I’d love to know more about/see this modification that sounds cool!

Are you still with the S92? I have one in an unopened box and am trying to decide whether to install it after an aborted first try with that model last March was DOA - this is a new replacement they sent after multiple WhatsApp interactions, so I assume it has the newest updates…

I don't have the s92, I have the 11in Hansshow one, but I know a few people who do have that model and they love it. As long as the new one they sent you isn't DOA, I'd install it. You can probably even just plug it in and power it up before running cables and all that mess just to make sure. In my opinion the digital rear mirror is a huge upgrade no matter which brand you get. I've said before, if I had to do it again it's the first accessory on my list hands down.

I understand and am seriously thinking about taking your advice. But what about losing the speaker?

So my friend said he doesn't have that issue with the S92 model you have, I cannot confirm that personally but if true then it is limited to only the Hansshow models as its due to a faulty wire harness. I am honestly not thrilled with the fact of losing the speakers and I wish @Hansshow Technology would get off their ass and respond to my numerous requests and emails about having this fixed, so far 0 response. I really like the mirror, it's a great product (minus that one major flaw and their god awful customer dis-service) a trade off I am willing to make for the moment because it's worth it. I wasn't able to fully get used to the rear view on the screen like others said and when it would rain the OEM rear view was useless, the roof mounted cam fixed all these issues for me.

My problem with the factory option is that it's too small on the left side of the screen and while a little larger on the right, I'm not happy with the position. At night, brightness on the screen dims, making it even harder to see what's behind you. My Wolfbox mirror is larger, closer to my eyes and has a slightly narrower field of view than the Tesla image, making it easier for me to see and of course it keeps the rear display visible while my turn signals are on. When I'm backing up, the backup camera image is great, but when I'm driving I want a better view of what's behind me.

While the solution I have is acceptable, what I really want is lighter weight screen only (no dash cam, front camera, etc) option that taps the existing rear camera view and allows me to stretch/adjust the image to replicate a traditional flat mirror image.

An acceptable alternative would be a slimmed down version of what I already have, just a simple screen with some zoom/keystone options to narrow the wide FOV rear camera. All we have at the moment from whatever vendor you choose is already existing dash cam solutions with custom wiring harnesses of dubious quality, not true digital rear view mirrors. There's some advantage to having a dedicated rear view camera, since I can see my bed, have a higher vantage point that isn't subject to as much glare and there's less chance that both cameras are obscured during poor weather.

Do you mind if I ask what your setup looks like? Where you tapped into power, etc? :)

It's sloppy, I just have 2 USB C cables (the other is my radar detector) trailing down to my console, plugged into a USB C power brick. I'm sure I could route long enough USB C cables through the headliner and down into the console but I keep hoping for a better solution.

I’m playing around with a new camera setup to, previously had a 100 degrees focus, and it was near perfect, when I rolled down the cover and compared the mirror/screen with the reflected image in the mirror/screen. I’m now looking for higher quality camera, and just tried a 5mm-15mm lens and at 5mm it was still way too zoomed in.
