So it’s been a while. How are things with the experiment?
Thought of this while browsing today because I ran into this:

any of you use something like this?

I don't have access to another trailer right now. In the spring, I think I will rent an Airstream 25ft. I want to see how much I can extend the sides without hitting the trailer in a max turn. I also will add vortex generators, and then take an actual trip. I will definitely post my results.

I think the deflector you posted is too small and would be way too far back from the trailer. The goal is to have as little gap as possible, and probably the vortex generators to help reduce drag from the gap.

Something like this is what I want simply to deflect air over the top of the RTT on my roof rack which is just a flat vertical surface 45" wide by 10" tall. I italicized something like this because this one doesn't appear to be a good one based on reviews...particularly this one which seems to basically prove it:

Is this pic on long island NY?
Nope, Assateague Island, MD, just south of Ocean City MD. Best camping beach camp sites in the USA. Wild ponies and deer included.

I spent an entire day building this. Attached to the truck using the 8 crossbar mounting points. I can remove the eight screws and remove the entire structure with my wife on the other side. Or I can remove 4 more screws and remove the front section separately from the rear section. Will start covering it with corrugated plastic sheets tonight.

Hopefully can get a range test with an Airstream Basecamp or Bambi later in the week if I can find a rental in SLC. Will test the same out and back with and without the wind deflector. I don't know if the drag behind the deflector will be worse than the drag from just the trailer. We will see....

How did you attach to the Cybertruck mounting studs?

Yes. I originally cut some hardwood and screwed blocks to 90 degree metal brackets. But I'm worried about the strength. So I ordered 1/8inch thick 3 inch aluminum angle metal and cut them to be 3 inches wide, and cut one side to be 7/8 wide to bolt to the truck. 4 on each side. (I haven't drilled the holes yet that will go through the actual wind deflector yet since it's winter).

Awesome, thank you!
Hadn't thought of using Amazon for a metals source.

If I end up buying an airstream trailer of my own, and range is acceptable with a 27ft Airstream, I may rebuild the wind deflector for real world use using 1 inch square aluminum tubing instead of the cheap wood I got at Home Depot. Can get 21ft lengths pretty cheap.

What's the range with the 27ft Airstream?

I don't know yet. I plan on renting one in the spring and doing a several hundred mile trip with my wind deflector. I will report the data.

21' pieces will be tough to manage. I'd consider building a forward and aft piece that connect in the middle.

You should also taper the rear of the trailer, from a quick search, a tapered rear end, is more importable and has a bigger affect than tampering the front of an object due to the low pressure wake behind the vehicle that pulls the truck back.

Yeah, but my trailer doesn't have much in the way of mounting points...
2" receiver though...
Starting pulling measurements for a ten foot high (from ground) deflector
Also researching low rolling resistance tires
