I took my truck in to get tires rotated, water in vault (slat/reroute), and phone overheating (replacing with v5 phone charger). All went well, up until they went to "updated the firmware for the charger". At which point, the firmware failed, locked the tech's out of the vehicle completely. They had to reach out to their "engineering department" for assistance.

Thankfully the SC was cool about it all, gave me a loaner, etc..

Anyone else had an issue with a firmware update for the charger cause issues?

Mine bricked itself while charging over night one time. Took forever to "jump" it to get it to charge again. Updated the truck the following morning and it hasn't happened since.

It was the firmware for the new Gen5 phone charger in the center console that messed it up.

I finally got it back and the SC had the “engineers at HQ” fix it remotely somehow.

Is there any information on this gen5 phone charger? Like a recall or service bulletin? What version did you have prior? And what year or vin is your Cybertruck? I barely use mine except for my AirPods. But if there is newer tech that I should get installed I don’t mind reaching out.
Minus bricking or locking the techs out lol

Greetings,

Just left Tesla Service Center, Alpharetta who replaced the cell phone charger in my Cybertruck. They indicated it was a new part. The post conversation, after the service offered two considerations. 1) Charging in direct sunlight may contribute to additional heating of smart phone. 2) Charging the phone in a phone case may also contribute to additional warming of the smart phone.

I was told the service time was an estimated 3 hours. However, a little less than 1 1/2 hours later, service was complete.

I'm not sure what the Gen 5 phone firmware is, so I hope this reply is related.

Regards,

My bad. Reread post. I see you're speaking of wall charger firmware.

Maybe admin. can direct my post to proper section. I simply searched charger and start typing.

Nope, I was referring to the mobile charger inside the truck, sorry for not quite being clear enough. It's been resolved now and I've happily got my truck back. I did NOT like driving the Model X. Way too used to the steer by wire and the limitied turning of the squirkle compared to the yoke on the loaner.

Just saw this. It's a 2025 that I got in April. There is apparently a service bulletin, when I mentioned to the SC that I was having issues with it overheating they immediately said their's a newer part (the gen5 phone charger) that they replaced. I will say that it works considerably better. I've got a iPhone 16 Pro Max that would stop charging and overheat every single time I used placed my phone there. Since getting the truck back I've only had it happen once. That was on a long trip down to the Keys where the sun was blazing down on the front of the phone and the charger heating up the back.
