I currently have both reservations for CT and Lightning, but here's what lead me to put in a reservation for Lightning.

Either truck was going to need to fit into one of 2 categories: ultimate road trip family vehicle, or cheap EV work vehicle. If I do end up getting the Lightning, it'll be the cheapest option they have. If I choose the CT, it'll be dual motor with hopefully announcements in increased range and charging speeds for those road trips.

What lead me to the Lightning is I believe it has a better $40k version. Yes, CT has a little more range, faster charging, a larger screen, autopilot, and SS body among others. However, the most important thing it doesn't have is dual motors. Unfortunately, it is a deal-breaker for me. And since I don't plan on taking this truck on long trips where most of the other Tesla features would be more important, the Ford wins out.

A couple last points, I am probably over the 700,000 mark for the CT, and it could be a while before I'd get it. So it is entirely possible I start with the Lightning, and then switch to the CT. The other point is Ford does still have the $7,500 credit. Even though this might change w/ Biden, at the moment I am factoring it into my reservation. Is there anyone else who had similar thoughts?
The Ford will always be a ford and just remember Tesla is 10 yrs ahead of Ford or anyone for that matter. None of us EV owners own a EV to travel long distance. But if we need to theres the Tesla supercharger network already in place. Tesla will dominate this space for ever. Ford will have to PAY dearly in the end. The F150 will be very vanilla, the CT will be in demand and clearly will date the lighting in no time at all, Ford is 10 yrs behind. If your going for vanilla to travel in. Buy a SW airlines ticket when you feel like long distance driving. Oh by the way when we travel long distance, we fly, I bet you do to....

Realistically your Lightening will be 5-6 years old before your turn for a Cybertruck comes up. Keep your pre-order for the CT just in case you want a new truck then.

Seriously doubt it'll take Tesla 6 years to work it's way through the pre-order roster. Even if you ordered it today, it'll be less than 6 years to delivery.

Are you still planning to order with pricing being 75k+ for the large pack?

I drive. 1200 miles. 20 hrs. 1 driver. Multiple times a year.

Try it some time. ;)

When you get where you are going, you don't need to rent a vehicle and can stay as long as you want. And there is no stress of schedules and delays/cancellations. Just go when you want at whatever pace you want.

I tend to drive too, though not 1200 miles one way, usually 500 miles plus 500 return.

So long as the drive is less than 1 day, I figure it's a wash. Dealing with the logistics of flying is a 6-8 hour ordeal as well. If it's more than 12 hours of driving one way I start thinking about flying more seriously. The problem is we don't live near a major airport so then you start looking at transfers which adds to the mess.

In the Tesla, it's even easier. Just let Autopilot do the work. Long driving is the big reason I want FSD fully functional.

You just might get the CT before Ford can fulfill its back orders and if Ford is still in business. Ford is like an economy EV compared to the do everything CT that IS in heavy demand. Who wants a vanilla ford EV? The ford will just blend in with all the other cheap alternatives, while Tesla becomes king, setting all the standards....

I mentioned this in another thread, but clearly a few thousand lucky Lightning orders will be filled this year. Their configurator went live this month.

Of course, Ford plans to not even catch up to the number ordered in 2021 by 2025... So anyone ordering now is waaaay down that queue.

Clearly, when the CT performs in the outback, all doubters will be left holding my beer.

Some will stay with their preferred brand… Or styling… that's fair enough. But they won't ridicule as they do now.

Not sure why you are wasting good beer on doubters that ridicule. The apocalypse machine can protect your beer while you show off the CT. Ideally, you will be making bets with your beer and end up winning the doubters beers too.

Are you talking about beer choice here or truck choice?

So long as it isn’t a thin ass Pilsner we can all agree to be friends.

This is the way to do it…. Load up your Tesla Frunk Fridge with some good fortifying beer and kick their ass on the trail. Wait a few minutes… Then drink the beer. (Order of operations is important)

Someday FSD will be good enough that the order will be:
  1. Load up the frunk with some good fortifying beer.
  2. Add a couple of cool ones to the fridge storage under the front center seat.
  3. Drink a few as FSD drives you to the off-road meetup.
  4. Make bets with your fellow "friends" that don't think the CT is up to snuff.
  5. Get in your CT and tell FSD where to go.
  6. Giggle in joy as you enjoy the ride while trying hard not to abuse your beer through spillage.
  7. Return to claim your winnings so you can refill the center console fridge for your next run.
  8. Once your "friends" are out of beers, let FSD know you are ready to go home.
  9. Find new friends because your current friends are now aggravated that you drank all their beer.
