People need to watch the video about servicing the Mach-E where the Ford dealer had no idea what to do with it. Dealerships run by money hungry third-parties need to go away. If you have a Tesla you deal directly with the manufacturer instead of a middleman. This is how it should be. If you buy a Lightning are you ready to suffer the consequences of dealing with a local Ford repair shop that's never seen an EV before? Good luck.

We take our Mach-E to a Ford dealer service center for them to fix 3x issues and openly admit they cannot fix it… Why Ford, why?

On top of this, Ford told this customer not to take car to the neighborhood dealer but to a different dealer.
The dealer specifically recommended by Ford could NOT actually do the repairs they told the customers they could do.

Ford claims they have over the air software updates (OTA).

What they fail to tell customers is OTA updates can NOT be done by customer. It requires dealer !!!!

Ford Will Address Mustang Mach-E Overheating From Regen Braking
Reportedly, there have already been six cases of the issue reported in Norway.
Jul 15, 2021
https://insideevs.com/news/520468/ford-mustang-mache-overheating-regen/

.....
Karl Martin Rønneberg shared via Teslarati:

“I have had six salvages of the same car model in 14 days. Since the vehicles were stopped, Rønneberg noted that the Mach-Es had to be transported using a tow truck."

-------------------------------

Wow, Ford Mustang Mach-e bricks itself if you use too much regen braking, just stops in the middle of the mountain road and the car has to be towed to the dealer!!

Looks like Ford is not even to level of Nikola Motors. At least the Nikola could get all the way to the bottom of the hill without bricking itself before getting towed.

Mustang Mach-e is NOT Ford's first electric vehicle in the modern era (1998-2002 Ford Ranger EV pickup, 2011-2018 Focus Electric 5-door hatchback).

Elon Musk wrote & made public documents (2006 Master Plan, 2016 Master Plan Part Deux) on how to profitable transition to electric cars (first make an electric sport/luxury car that is better than ICE, profit, then repeat moving down the economy of scale lowering cost curve). Elon and Tesla made Model S, X, 3 with battery technology already on the market that was equally available to Ford & GM over 9 years ago (2021 year Tesla 4680 will be first Tesla invented & exclusive battery tech).

Ford and GM had time since the 1990s

They (Ford, GM, other legacy autos) claim their 100 years of experience is relevant.

Ford, GM and other legacy should not get to have it both ways.

Empathy for the customers of any make/model going through these pains.

This is why I WON'T buy a Lightning (well, one of the reasons). My buddy bought a Ranger last year, brand spanking new. Wasn't driving right after the first 100 or so miles. Ford told him they couldn't fix it - nothing they could do for him (I don't recall what the issue was). He's like, "I just spent 50k on this and you can't fix it?" Nope. Asked for another Ranger, they said no. Tough luck.
He sold it and swore off Ford forever. Unfortunately, this "We can't fix it" attitude of Ford is more and more commonplace.
On the flip side, my dad bought a Ranger last year and it drives great. Wonderful truck.

It cracks me up how so many people just assume 100+ years making ICE vehicles is going to make these companies instant experts on a completely different drive technology. There is zero crossover between the sort of knowledge you need to engineer a good ICE and engineering a good battery/ electric setup.

Yes, they can build chassis like son-of-a-bitches. But the important part of an EV is having an efficient/ lightweight/ cheap battery, good delivery of that power to the drivetrain, and fast charging.

Traditional auto has spent 100 years making up for porky un-aerodynamic designs by engineering engines with more horsepower. EVs bring all those bad-habits to the forefront.

Going to buck the trend here. Very very few drivers will ever notice the absence of AWD on the rear drive Cybertruck. For day-to-day driving Tesla's 2WD is fine.

If you don't need the extra range and aren't doing actual 4 wheeling, save yourself $10k and get the single motor/ 2WD. The big advantage of the second motor on the Cybertruck is the 50 miles of additional range.

No one is going to mention the passed-out little "J3" in the background of the video? LOL.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and AWD/4WD is a must for at least half the year. In many areas west of the Cascades, winter tires, studs, are almost mandatory, especially in the mountains. Between rain and snow, you need to have all 4 wheels powered to make sure you stay on the road and can get away from the idiots without AWD when they slide all over the road.

By the time my number is up, they will be making CT1 (off menu). I may downgrade. One of the reasons I went for dual motor was towing then I realized EV truck may not be ready for that with current tech. I also wanted the security of an additional motor if one goes bad but then dual motor doubles the chance of a motor going bad. I wonder if you can get a CT1 with 500mile range for $50 K.

Interesting thought. It seems like a it would definitely expand potential customers. Maybe options like this will appear after a year or two of feedback once initial trucks are on the road.

After the battery gets to be a certain size, the 2 motor setup is more efficient. They gear them differently so the front axel is most efficient at higher speeds and shift the load to the front axel as you go faster.

https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1094911_tesla-model-s-dual-motor-is-quicker-has-higher-range-too-how-do-they-do-that said:
"Because we have two drive units, where we can shift the power from front to rear, and constantly be at the optimal efficiency point for each motor," Musk said, "we're actually able to overcome the penalty of the increased mass of the motor."

Later he elaborated for Bloomberg News: "We're able to balance the efficiency of the motors....If you have just one motor, it's always on a particular power-vs-efficiency curve."

"But if you have two motors, you can optimize between them, and have the motors operate in their more efficient regime more of the time."
The difference is only about 10-15%, but after a certain size battery, adding the second motor is essentially "free" in terms of weight. This is why so many of the Tesla models are dual or tri motor.

At low speeds, the car is about 50/50 front/ rear powered. The front motor is more efficient at speed, so as the car gets up over 45 MPH or so, the front motor takes over most of the workload.
