Who has an educated opinion about when this is supposed to happen?

There was discussions that when we are within 2 years of delivery of Optimus robots. Tesla will take reservations. I hope the reservation money is $100. I'll take five. Imagine how advanced Optimus will be in 2027-2028 with OTA updates? That's going to be amazing. Apps we can download to complete tasks. The CES in Vegas is next week with many robots on display. Coming soon... Optimus exits Cybertruck at Tesla Factory.

Who has an educated opinion about when this is supposed to happen?

Sale to consumers is a difficult question because it will be more valuable to Tesla internally, and a bunch of other companies, making the initial pricing higher than most consumers want to pay. Elon has said he plans to deploy them internally, and sell them to other companies, before selling to consumers.

The $30K price is not supposed to happen until Optimus is in truly high production, millions of units. The amount of processing power on-board will be astounding, making even the computer a significant cost (and all those actuators!).

I plan to get one as soon as I physically can, even if I have to pay $150K and it's still rudimentary in capabilities. I will have to put a grab bar just behind the Cybertruck's roof so Optimus can stand in the bed while driving around. I hope he can wear a headset so I can talk to him back there and tell him what to do. Maybe he can throw groups of kids some hard candies or impersonate famous personalities while reciting famous lines from a movie, and then waving.

It's illegal for people to ride in moving truck beds, not robots!

Following Tesla, Space X, etc religiously for many years.
2027/2028 will be like the first "Cybertruck Deliveries" a dozen VIPs with major NDAs will get one
Before you as a peasant can actually buy one, likely 2030
By 2035 they should be available and useful for things more than party tricks

Tesla started taking Cybertruck reservations in 2019. The first deliveries were in 2023, so early reservation holders had to wait for four years.

Telsa started taking Roadster reservations in 2020. Reservation holders are still waiting.

Tesla started taking Semi reservations in 2017. Reservation holders are still waiting.

So even if Tesla does start taking reservations for Optimus, delivery within two years is not necessarily guaranteed.
