I just got my delivery date, but they were uncompromising on location so I have to travel 160+miles vs the 20mi to my nearest location.

-_-

Since it's a long way to uber or ask a friend to drop me off then drive back separately, I was planning to take a train. The big downside is if I run through the checklist and find an issue, then an entire day is blown as I try to get back empty handed.

Based on your pickup experiences, would you recommend against a one-way trip?
Going to the Tesla Center in Irvine, CA if anyone has relevant experiences at that particular location.

It’s very very unlikely you’ll reject it. They won’t offer it to you if it’s “out of spec”. You’ll have 100 miles to report anything you find as well. So you can just take delivery, drive it home go over it with a fine tooth comb. Then report anything issues. Walk around it taking a close video of everything, though so you have video proof of any issues.

I don’t think I can agree with any of that. I mean this forum is replete with trucks where delivered was attempted well out of spec, sometimes on multiple occasions for the same purchaser. Mine certainly was with regard to the finish.

Also, did you miss the part where he said his commute to go get the truck was going to be 160 miles? I didn’t read that as round-trip, and even if it was round-trip he’s dangerously close at 80 miles (one way) to being locked out of having them do repairs so, driving at home is a terrible idea IMO.

I don’t know why they’re telling you that you have to go that far if they have an SC within 20 miles of your house, but I would be pretty miffed by that personally. Especially with all of the gotcha’s that could potentially arise. The delivery process is notoriously bad and for you this needs to be an arms length transaction. You’re not gonna get any brownie points for bending over backwards to make this easy on them. That’s not how any of this should work.

I’d say be resolute and be careful! The truck is amazing, the delivery experience is generally anything but.

My original delivery date was Friday, all steps complete and cleared work schedule.

Tesla offers to deliver early, tomorrow morning, I begrudgingly agree as clearing schedule is disruptive to my patients.

Tesla offers delivery today, I begrudgingly agree as I have to cancel last patient today, as does wife(as with OP they gave me farther delivery center and I care not for uber).

Tesla then rescinds delivery with no delivery date established or explanation.

Good start.

Had a similar situation with delivery location.
Be very cognizant of the fact that if you drive it home you will be past your 100 miles to report. At that point manufacturing flaws etc will be covered under warranty, but skuffs, dings, issues with some fitment etc will not and you will be on the hook for it.
Tesla used to do 3 or 7 days, not it is 100 miles which in your case is the drive home

Theres two trains of thought here:

first: you want the truck, and trust Tesla’s process of “if you find it we will fix it after delivery. Go over it with a fine tooth comb, make note of all issues, notify your delivery advisor of said issues, and then set up a service appt after delivery to fix them. This is fine if you don't mind little cosmetic/fit and finish issues that don't affect vehicle operation. If you are expexcting a perfect vehicle, this may not work for you.

second: you expect a perfect vehicle: you still have the option to accept or decline delivery, but you have a much higher likelyhood of finding yourself in a position where you feel like youll have to reject delivery, in which case youll leave empty handed.

you just have to ask yourself which is the case for you. Though CT has been in production for over a year, tesla is still working on perfecting build consistency, and it is nowhere near the consistency of MY or M3. Even the one i just picked up has some issues that the service centers are aware of but have no fixes for yet.

either way, just remember why you want a CT in the first place, and if thats enough, then take it and drive one of the most simple to operate yet technologically advanced vehicles in the world.

Breathe

it’ll be fine and if it needs fixing Tesla will. 11 Tesla’s in, they’re good for it and you won’t be disappointed. Bought my AWD CT April 2024. Perfect in almost all categories and 5500 Vin. Much fewer posts the last 6 months about rejects.

So did you reject you truck, or did you take delivery? From what I’m seeing on this site, is that almost everyone takes delivery. I think I remember maybe one post of someone rejecting it. And if you find an issue, you can report it, and take delivery. So what I was saying, is it is very very likely that you’ll take delivery, the vehicle won’t be out of spec.
But yes it is weird that you can’t pick it up closer, or have it delivered to your home.

If we can believe the poll so far, about 10% of people rejected. That's about the chance I was willing to take (10-15%), but also I would pass the 100mi warranty thing (that I was not previously aware of) on the trip home.

Update: The delivery appointment was cancelled, so there's a chance I can still pick it up at the closer location. From what people have written I might ask a little harder for the closer location, I'd really like to minimize back-and-forthing with service centers or shop time for any fixes. My main goal is a smooth pickup process and no need for follow-ups.

Why did it get cancelled?

You live in San Diego? Stand your ground and have them deliver it to your SC. That's rediculous they're making you travel. That's not a good way to start a relationship. Even Carmax would deliver a car to your closest store.
