How many have had PCS malfunction/failure?

I consider a failure ANY confirmed PCS issue that ultimately required replacement of the PCS module.

if failure occurred outside of warranty, please post how much you paid for replacement. It seems to vary quite a bit for some reason.

It is the AC to DC converter on a Tesla. When not supercharging the power needs to change form so to speak to add the power to a battery (DC). Supposedly this is a newer design than other models. Supposed to have more redundancy. That was during the teardowns.

Mine is at service center right now and estimate is for $0 and I have 37k miles on it so it must be under warranty. I pick up on Tuesday per app.

I usually charge via 240 VAC @ 24A at home. Then, while charging, current goes to zero, and message appears on dash and App indicating a charging issue. I try to unplug and cannot, and notice charging LED near NACS connector is dead. I use emergency disco procedure in manual (easy). Book appointment with SC, and limp to the appointment with 15% SoC about 35 miles.

They replace charging circuit apparently, which works, but notice leak is sail so send to Tesla Collision for tear down to find root cause. They conclude roof leak near rear edge of roof and eventually conclude its a manufacturing defect and agree to replace entire roof under warranty. Two weeks later, job is complete and I cannot even tell if they did anything, but but roof tint is no longer there. They said my warranty on my roof is now upgraded to a lifetime warranty since Tesla Collision replace the roof glass and seals as long as I own my CT.

This occurred at around 42K miles, and now, I'm approaching 50K miles with no issues and am really pleased with how Tesla SC of Delray handling 100%. Plus they gave me a CT CB for 21 days while under repair.

Total Cost $0.00, plus now have lifetime warranty for repair/replacement for all work done at Tesla Collision.

Interesting that Tesla won’t even offer an extended service agreement in CT but does with other models. Seems they think they’d lose money a such an agreement(?) I don’t see an option in the app for it if it exists.

I'm not Rizzi but I only charge through my wall connector @ 24 amps, my son sets his down to 16 amps. Why you ask. Well, everything is wired correctly for 48 amp charging but we both really don't need to charge up the vehicles that fast over night. We have all night to charge and by throttling the charge amps everything runs cooler.

If you run @ 48 amps and feel the charge cable between the Wall Connector and the NACS (North American Charging Standard) Connector it will feel warm. If the cable is on the ground our local ants like to hop on the warm wire and walk up to the car and start walking around on the car. Running the charge at 24 or 16 amps there is no heat on the cable and the ants leave it alone. There is plenty of time for an overnight charge and the vehicle is ready to leave in the AM for work fully charged for another day.

Feel your cable, let me know if it feels warm @ 48 amps and if it doesn't feel warm @ 24 or 16 amps.

Cool thx for the reply, I am aware of what your saying (now that you mention it) I experienced that with the mobile connector on my model Y, so I installed the wall connector and much better in terms of heat. thx again

I do the same, 32 amps though. Hated how hot the cable got at 48..
