Until FSD is ready, I don't want to share the road with these yahoos who don't pay attention. Understanding the limitations of the system matters.
Toyota doesn’t have the same “limitation” in the eyes of third parties who have rated it safer than FSD. Glad Tesla is finally playing catch up. About time.

Site your sources. So far, all I've read is a lot of hearsay. Lane assist is not FSD.

umm I already did. Here it is again. Multiple sources:

Short answer: yes.

Two independent test programs have found Toyota/Lexus’s system scores higher than Tesla’s on safety‑related highway assist metrics:

  • IIHS “Partial Automation Safeguard Ratings” (Mar 2024): The only system to earn an overall Acceptable was Lexus Teammate with Advanced Drive (on the Lexus LS). Tesla’s system (tested on a Model 3) earned an overall Poor for safeguards like driver‑monitoring, attention reminders, and emergency fallback.
  • Euro NCAP “Assisted Driving Gradings” (Jun 2025): Toyota bZ4X received a Very Good assisted‑driving grade, while the Tesla Model S (Autopilot) was graded Moderate due to weak balance of driver engagement vs assistance (despite strong safety backup).

Consumer Reports’ most recent full ranking (2023) also put Tesla mid‑pack and highlighted shortcomings in communication/driver monitoring compared with top systems, with Toyota/Lexus not at the top but generally ahead of Tesla in clarity and collaboration with the driver.

Bottom line: in safety‑oriented evaluations of highway assist/partial automation, Toyota/Lexus’s Teammate/Advanced Drive has tested better than Tesla’s Autopilot/FSD on safeguards and driver‑engagement.

…And Toyota Advanced Drive is not lane assist. On highways, it takes interchanges and navigates to your offramp, including changing lanes. It sure sounds like you are talking from ignorance about something you have never actually used. Not unlike all the people who hate on CT’s and have never actually driven one. It does what it does, better than Tesla AutoPilot, and with less annoyance than Tesla FSD. It just doesn’t drive on city streets. But for highway driving, it’s plainly more pleasant and less naggy. The very thing Elon is now claiming he’s going to address about FSD. Y’all are in DEEP deep denial. It’s quite funny. Like, you literally cant fathom that Toyota has Tesla beat in hasslefree highway driving. It’s a weird manifestation of social hierarchy. Like every Tesla owner assumes their tech in their cars MUST be less naggy than all the competition. Ummm, why is it so painful to learn there’s another car that actually allows you to eat ice cream cones in peace while navigating you on the highway? It’s a weird flex, to get one’s panties all in a bunch over.

Toyota’s self-drive system is already far less naggy than Tesla and has been for years. Fanboi much?
Are you referring to Toyota Safety Sense? Or something else?

No. It’s literally called Toyota AdvancedDrive. It is not in many cars and it is definitely a premium feature, different and more robust than their lane assist tech.

Looks like 3 years ago it was on par with enhanced autopilot. Has it progressed? I don’t see any recent news on it.

It uses cameras and also Lidar. It is like Tesla autopilot except it also navigates on highways. It’s about the same as it was 3 years ago; which is much less naggy than Tesla FSD during highway navigation. Looking forward to FSD not requiring so much interaction particularly on wide open highways. You don’t really realize how annoying Tesla’s beeps and nags are until you drive a car that has far fewer of them. It will be a welcome change. FSD more like autopilot is a win. FSD with the current nags, blows. I still use it all the time. But that doesn’t mean the nag is not annoying. A CT driver with FSD should never have to feel like they’re missing autopilot. I miss it all the time. I look forward to not missing it.

"...in the circumstances where Toyota’s is superior...?
Oh good grief. Toyota has a piss-poor system which attempts to "lane keep assist" and in multiple Toyota vehicles I've driven will put the vehicle on a trajectory to fail to negotiate a basic, smooth, well marked highway curve and drive off the highway into a dirt field, resulting in a catastrophic crash at rural highway speeds (aka 40-65 mph).

Toyota "lane keep assist" and "adaptive cruise control" which slows/stops, but if stops will not automatically resume locomotion is nothing like Tesla FSD.

I can't believe I'm responding to these ideas...

They do what they do, with far less nag than Tesla’s system performing the same tasks. Hence, Tesla’s nags are pointless. (A Tesla should be able to travel down the highway and change lanes, with no more nag than Toyota’s current system. But it doesn’t.) Toyota’s system is also deemed safer btw.
Whine and cry all you want about the nags but the court has ruled partially against Tesla for NOT providing enough nags. This precedence will now drive any and all non L3 systems to provide further user input/nags and has some deep reaching impact to every single manufacturer going forward. Every review that I have scoured over only rated Toyota's HIGHWAY/INTERSTATE only autonomous feature better in the monitoring department and NOT the actual driving portion.

What exactly are you doing in the driver seat when you are are being nagged currently? I cannot recall an instances in the past 6 months or greater when I got a nag when not paying attention.

You’re proving my point for me. It was rated higher because it requires less nag/attentiveness. The very thing I’ve been saying. It was also rated safer. You just must not have read those reports.

As for regulators requiring more nags, that’s simply untrue. Hence why Toyota’s doesn’t require more nags, and also hence why Elon has plainly stated the nags are about to drastically DECREASE. Cognitive dissonance much?

You literally don’t have the frame of reference to compare to. It is so much more pleasant to sit in a Toyota with advanced drive, and look around at the scenery while driving WITHOUT as many nags. You still have to pay attention. Tesla is just overkill. Not really hard to understand. It is as plainly stated as that. I don’t know why some people have such an unactive imagination, that they cannot imagine that pleasant difference. I live in a scenic place. I love taking the time to responsibly enjoy scenery while driving. If you think you’re able o conveniently do that now in the Tesla, you’d be surprised what you’re missing. Toyota knows I’m being responsible and doesn’t nag me. Why does Tesla?? I’m looking forward to a lot less nags in the Tesla which is exactly what Elon has said to expect. How about maybe believe what he’s saying…? It’s from the horse’s mouth. If it wasn’t currently naggy, there would be nothing to drastically improve upon, after all. Duh.

So what ever on earth is it that Elon is talking about making “far less naggy”?? You are a contrarian.
I read it as:

Far less naggy = FSD is progressing at a rate of safety that Tesla as a corporation has determined that we can be less aggressive and allow you more time to not pay attention to the road before providing a warning. This means you no longer have to ruin you entire day and glance back at the road or temporarily remove and obstructions in your face for a couple of seconds.
