I'm not a $100K car guy. I reserved my truck thinking I could get into it for 50-60K, and that would be a stretch on the budget. When it was announced at $100K, I decided to dump all my money into my farm and home loan and try to get those paid off completely. Two weeks ago I hit a deer and destroyed my car. Used car prices are outrageous for what you get so after driving all the Ice vehichles in my budget, Last night I did a test drive (actually just rode,) in a 2022 Model Y performance . Blew my mind. Very comfortable. my 22 year old daughter was riding in the back seat and she loved it and said the seats were extremely comfortable. this is important because I have grand children and want to take them on some trips. Today I drove a Model 3 Long range. I'm too big for it. I barely fit inside it. Seat all the way back. difficult to get in and out(I'm only 6,2" 220 lbs ), and ground clearance so low, I would worry about trying to get down our dirt road for the last 2 miles of drive each day, and Seat didn't feel comfortable to me, so I decided that I'm gonna get a model Y. I'm starting from near zero knowledge on this, so I'm looking for suggestions on websites with a similar vibe to this one to be able to pull knowledge from other owners. Everyone here has been very cool and helpful and I know many of you already own Tesla's so I figure you have some good insight.

I’ll never drive an ICE again. For you tho, Get a used beater farm truck and save. Note your buying someone else’s problems tho. wait for the RWD to release. By the time 2029 rolls around you should have enough for it.

I could have paid off my house a few years ago but I think of it this way, no way in hell are we gonna get a loan at 3% on 30 years. Cheaper to just make minimum payment and invest it. - not financial advise -

We have a model 3, a model y and the ct. I’m 6’5ā€/200 lbs (but have also lost over 65 lbs this year) and my wife and I have road-tripped all over this country in all three. But have done MULTIPLE 5,000+ mile trips in the 3. However, My go-to recommendation for anyone is always the model Y. It’s a fantastic car that you will be very happy with and the price is great right now.

Funnily enough I picked up a used Model Y last week to replace an older German ICE vehicle. I had been looking at 2021’s but in my discovery found the 2023’s came with the ā€˜comfort suspension’ and the AMD chips (older Y’s are running Intel chips which are laggy and likely will be some of the first to be unsupported). If you’re eligible for any tax credits, the new Y’s are likely competitive with used esp. if you can take advantage of the Tesla financing promos through month-end (and you’ll save another $1,000 clicking through my referral link in my sig). For me, the 2023 Y was the sweet spot and happily one week into ownership.

When looking at used, try to look '21 and newer for sure - the intel chips are definitely a bit slower, and will be showing their age with each passing year, but should be supported for quite a while- but the main difference is anything pre-2021 has the 'old' interior and its.... dated.

Go with the Model Y but get the features you want up front, color, tow, etc. cant go back after delivery. You can also get almost two inch all around lift for you dirt road.

Instant CT sub and you save $40k-$50k right up front and still get a great vehicle.

Did you test drive a Model X? Those are so nice once you drive one you won’t want to settle for a 3 or Y.
You should be able to find a 2022 for under 60k.

thing s I like about the X

- Auto present doors
- Auto close door
- refined premium interior
- larger screen
- tilt screen
- fast
-falcon doors
-bigger
-looks nicer

I have a 2020 Model 3 RWD; bought it new. For families I suggest it's taller sibling, the Model Y. The performance trim would be fantastic if you are into sporty driving; otherwise the long range trim is amazing if do a lot of road trips.

I have been waiting on the following things before I (personally) pull the trigger and upgrade from my M3:

1) 4680 structural batteries.
2) Juniper refresh.

I'm hoping we will get both in 6-8 months when the Y refresh should be about ready to hit the scene. If you can wait that long, I would. I haven't seen a M3 highland in person yet, but pictures of it look phenomenal.

Look no further friend: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/

This is where I started when we got our first Tesla which was a Model Y in 2020. You can also check out r/Tesla on Reddit.

I think you’ll be very happy with the model Y though you may also want to consider a used model X given your size and that’s gonna be a little bit more powerful if you want to tow something around the farm. My wife is about to upgrade to one of those, but do some research on the falcon wing doors as they could be a little bit fiddly/temperamental.

I think this is the last year of the current model Y before it gets refreshed inside and out. Last year models typically have all the bugs worked out. The refresh model will have some new features if you are willing to wait for it.

Thats my Truck….the one on the left. 2004. 280k miles. I stopped by Tesla of Richmond yesterday after work. The guy working there was very cool. Let me go for a test drive and ran the numbers for me on a new one with the 1.99% financing. The payment is attractive but total debt is not. I’m gonna go the used rout for about 10k less. This lets me stay on track to pay off my farm and building loan by 2030. I hate borrowing money but I had a shoulder replacement this year and my daughter had a stomach pacemaker put in. And medical costs drained me. I should probably have pulled back from force feeding my building loan but I’m stubborn.
Looking at 2021 MYLR and will update with pictures and smiling selfie when I pull the trigger.

Well, I made a liar out of myself. I brought home the printout that Chris at Richmond Tesla gave me. Pulled up the Tesla website and went thru the used inventory. Structuring the deal the same way. If I had cash, the used car wins. Because it’s cheaper. But if I’m making payments the new car was more appealing. The purchase price difference is $10k. After financing it is only $6480 difference for 20k more miles of battery/motor warranty, 4 year newer car and all the improvements. I kept pulling different cars and looking at them vs new. because I want the used car to make more sense.
Finally I called my insurance sgent. I knew EV is more expensive to insure but whats the difference between a $31k 2021 and a $48,000. 2024? $9. The difference between used EV and new EV for insurance was $9. I will take delivery Saturday.
Killbox I was gonna use your code but I didnt pull the trigger till late and the guy had a code to use. Maybe a friend of his,?

We picked up the car, drove around and had lunch and then went to a wedding. The drive home was mindblowing. I didn't realize they give you a trial of full self driving. My car drove me home last night, 90 miles from Richmond. The craziest part is that I didn't put my destination address in the Navigation. I just got on the downtown expressway and pushed down on the lever and it took over. I stopped halfway home so that my wife could put gas in her jeep. Then I entered the address in the Navigation and started driving again. This time I turned it on as soon as I got out of the gas station and it work amazingly well. It Turned the high beams on and down when appropriate, passed slow drivers and did a right on red. It only did poorly when I was on a long sweeping turn on a back road that had a turn lane with no road markings. The Tesla huggged the road contour and got out of the main lane. It figured it out and made a bee line back for the road but I took over because there was another car following me closely. There was also another time that it followed the car in front of me a little closely but overall it drives better than me. I’m going into town after I feed my goats this morning, to find a supercharger and figure out how to use it.
Thanks everyone for the previous advice.
