Well, again the capacity and mileage dropped. Started at 246 miles at 80% at 10 miles on odometer. Now at 50500 miles it shows 238 at 80%. Wasn't expecting to lose so fast. Charge 99% of time to 80% and charge mostly at home. Drive 100 plus miles a day. Anyone else see this or worse? I'm ok with it as it's still the best truck I've ever owned out of 8 trucks.

Normal - take it down to 5 % and charge back up I bet it will show a different #
Hmm, will try that. I was at 11% but consistently for 50k miles I've brought down charge to under 15% before charging.

It’s very common for a battery to loose 5-10%(or worse depending on driving and charging habits) in the first 50k, then it levels off quite a bit..

Here’s my battery capacity over time:

Tesla Cybertruck Battery capacity dropping.... IMG_1757

Note the downward trend, followed by a steep upward jump, and another downward slope. What happened?

For my needs, I charge to 50% daily. The sudden rise in apparent capacity occurred when I took a long trip, discharging to very low and then charging to 100%.

This didn’t change the actual capacity, but rather let the BMS get a better calibration. So I would agree with the suggestion to discharge as low as practical (single-digits) and then fully to 100%.

No need to over analyze things. Drive it, charge it, rinse, repeat. As you approach 150K, have it checked to see if you can get a free replacement under warranty. If you can’t, your battery is doing well enough. Don’t stress over getting it to single digits then charging to 50/80/100/whatever the next person thinks is cool, in order to preserve life. All of that matters very little (my 2 cents).

Right. I dont worry, I just drive, charge, drive, charge, drive but just putting it out there to see what going on.

I charge to 100% every two weeks or so, and have lost about 3 miles (currently at about 9k miles).

This is my 5th EV, and I get the whole longevity thing, but I've always felt like the stuff that they say are more scare tactics they use to avoid having to replace them under warranty. If I get to 150k going to 100% like I have been, and I don't need a replacement, I'm good. If I do, well, that's what the warranty is for.

Don't stress too much over small changes, it gets stuck in your head unnecessarily. Just my .02

You’ve lost 8 miles indicated at 80% over 50k miles and you’re upset? This is nothing, especially given that we are talking about Tesla who is especially cheap when it comes to buffers. Our model Y with 50k has 15% degradation. It went from 270 miles at 80% indicated to 223 miles. This is considered normal for the Panasonic NCA pack. The 4680s are actually looking to be a lot more resilient than the 2170s so far. Enjoy your truck and don’t worry about the tiny battery degradation.

I was under the assumption that the battery BELOW 20% or above 80% for "long" periods was bad. Could you have been damaging/stressing the battery by waiting to charge until its below 15%? I charge mine to 80% DAILY from around 68-74% about. Going on a road trip today and charged to 100% showing 317miles range.

No, wver said that as I drive daily 100 to 140 miles a day and charge at home every day.

Mine is usually steady of 260 at 80%; 325mi at 100%, the one time I charged to 100%. Charging to 100 takes long enough I am content with 94% on longer trips.

Other than the steady 260 at 80%, I have noticed 80% will increase to 264 when weather is "perfect", like mid to lower 60s, versus usual high 90sF to 100sF It seems to factor in weather and conditions as well as your driving when displaying a range.

I've made effort to not let it get below 20%. I might have hit 17%? once.

Lithium batteries are very happy at low SoC, even at 0%. However, "zero percent" is not "zero volts", it's more like 3V, but hitting zero actual volts (complete discharge) will damage the cells. (Plus, at something like 2% it will stop topping-off the 48V battery, so you'd quickly need to jump-start a Tesla thusly stored.). The BMS complains about sub-20% SoC because it's trying to prevent stranded drivers.

However, the cells experience more wear at higher Depth-of-Discharge (DoD), so it's best to charge daily rather than waiting until SoC is low. Many ICE drivers prefer to wait until they see the "E" light and then fill to "F", but for EVs this is a bad habit.

There's an increase in calendar degradation at higher SoC, with a notable increase around 55-60% and a big jump above 90%. You can charge to 100% as needed, but drive it right away instead of storing it at high SoC for long periods. My default charge level is 50% because that's more than enough for my daily needs.

As mentioned elsewhere (and will no doubt be repeated here) you don't need to worry about battery health unless that's your preference. The BMS will manage the pack just fine, even if you ignore all advice. The benefits of good habits are at the margins; even if you abuse the battery, you'd be hard-pressed to reach the sub-70% capacity that would trigger a warranty replacement.

When I got my Model3, the absolute best advice I received was "Turn off the miles display. Set it to %, think of it like a cellphone, and stop worrying about it."
