Tesla projected to win $400M Dept. of State contract for armored EVs

Tesla is projected to win what would be a $400 million contract from the U.S. Department of State for the purchase of armored electric vehicles to be used for government purposes, according to the Procurement Forecast from the agency for 2025.

The document states that the automaker will be awarded the massive contract in late September. It was initially added to the Procurement Forecast in December when former President Joe Biden was still in the White House.

For those curious: "It does not list which of Tesla’s EVs will be chosen to be outfitted with armoring to protect high-ranking government officials."
I mean, it can't be a model 3 or Y can it? Gotta be Cybertruck, to hard to armor an X?

Awesome! I was wondering about this the other day! Why hasn’t Tesla received any contracts from law enforcement or defense department yet for Cybertruck? Now I see this. Love it! Tesla should not only armor the glass, but also go high tech on arming the truck - like a James Bond car. Mount an automatic machine gun in the frunk and truck bed that can be operated from the cabin. Install drones. Add a bunch of rocket launchers. CT has the best camera sensors one could have. Imagine the tech innovations that can happen. They could turn CT into the most futuristic military tank!

Absolutely! If CT is used as a military tank, Glocks will be everywhere in the truck. They might use Glove box for something far more important than $800 Glocks, like a nuclear launch code for example ?!

Which President doesn’t want to sit in the most secure truck and safeguard the one thing that could annihilate humanity in a Glove box that’s secured by a PIN? ?

Probably you guys shloud patent that design! ?

The irony of all the moronic arguments against it are that it isn't "apocalypses proof" only deals with how bullet proof it is. Speed, maneuverability, weight capacity (not listed, what people have been doing), filtration, systems not exposed, etc.

Noting that additional layers of the stainless material (even honey combing for explosive??) would drastically increase its effectiveness. As the current layer has shown effective against many of the small arms rounds that are often used.

The ability of it to still go 0-60 in 3 seconds with the weight and have the maneuverability of almost a sports car avoids many of those shots that a standard armored vehicle would be required to take....

It is also equipped with an air filtration system that is almost as good as would be needed for actual gassing (charcoal filter mod??).

Hell its even been shown to still drive off with a wheel half broken off (thanks to a particular youtuber).

Conflict of interest??? Love the idea but seems like a kickback.
Yeah, if you believe in fake news, it does, but…..“It was initially added to the Procurement Forecast in December when former President Joe Biden was still in the White House.”

If y'all thought CT was heavy before... just you wait... Gonna need a bigger battery to compensate for the extra armoring, which adds more weight in itself lol. Maybe we'll finally see a quad motor.

Just got mine over the weekend. I think the weight makes it struggle a little to open and close properly but I love it! Couple adjustments and it worked great. Thanks for making these!
