Tesla Cybertruck šŸ“ and Honda Civic IMG_1725

I had an interesting conversation with a neighbor over the weekend who has a similar commute to mine. Here’s how it went…

Neighbor: Why did you buy a ? ? Don’t you drive over 150 miles every single day?

Me: Yes, my ? is extremely efficient and greatly improves driving fatigue using FSD.

Neighbor: That’s debatable…I doubt your ? can match the efficiency of my HONDA CIVIC.

Me: Actually, my commute with the ? is 40% more efficient and can save me over $1,431 over the course of the year when compared to your vehicle.

After a brief pause… he looked at me and said, ā€œI may have to book a test drive to and see if the hype is realā€

Moral of the story: There are many reasons why over 90% of Americans have yet to transition to EV, but the biggest one is ā€œFear of the unknownā€. But that fear starts to dissipate very quickly after test driving an EV and getting hands on experience with the instant torque and overall technological leap over ICE vehicles. Let’s all do our part and push for ā€œButts in Seatsā€.

The Civic is an odd vehicle to compare it to. You save $1,400 per year, but the car is as much as $50,000 less.

It's also a small, low-end car...not a truck.

The Model 3 is a good comparison.
100% this

$20k vs $100k

That’s needs to be factored in. Insurance cost, registration, as well as maintenance cost for the Civic

Discussion is focused on efficiency/running cost of operation, not total cost of ownership. A Civic is typically seen as an efficient vehicle and thus has low running costs. A big truck is typically seen as an inefficient vehicle with high running costs. Point to make is the neighbor thought a Cybertruck is inefficient when actually it's more efficient than a vehicle that is considered efficient.

Point was not about total cost of ownership or features/capabilities (lack thereof) of the different vehicles. Totally up to the neighbor to decide if a CT is worth the extra fixed costs for the extra features/capabilities.

Damn, are y'all actually only paying 15Ā¢ per Kwh?!
My absolute cheapest "Super Off Peak" "Tier 1" is 37.5Ā¢!
If I hit a "Reduce your use" on-peak it's $1.16 per kWh.

Two things, that mKwh, is probably if your driving it like a civic. Also $0.15 a kilowatt seems rather high.

But isn’t the only reason that they’re comparing the Honda is because that’s what his neighbor actually drives?

This wasn’t a hypothetical, he was showing the neighbor how his Civic compared to his CT.

Great to read a story where you’re helping convince someone to consider an EV, let alone a CT!

One thing in always shocked by is how the average American is unwilling to do just a little research and learn about EVs (or frankly anything new that is not the established norm). They get an idea in their head (that’s incorrect about EVs), and stick to that belief without any due diligence on their part. it’s like these people have chosen not to stay curious and learn, which cements them in their current knowledge.

Ouch! That’s crazy to think. my rate here in the Midwest is 7.5 cents per kWh, all the time with no rate plans or ev plans. Insanely cheap, as compared to the 350 a month I was spending to drive my Silverado the 5 years prior.

however California is expensive because it’s worth it ha! At least San Diego
