Just realized Elon made a post last month saying the AI5 chip is “almost done” and they’re working on AI6 already. But he also made a post in July saying AI5 was “finished.”

I ordered mainly for luxe package which could potentially be ending soon (even though it’s like less than a year old?) since fully purchased fsd can’t be purchased after February 14. But what if a HW5 cyberbeast drops a month after I take delivery and my HW4 can’t support unsupervised FSD? Is unsupervised even coming along with ai5? If so will they upgrade my hw4 -> hw5 (for free) since I got luxe package?

maybe model s/x discontinuation, fsd fully purchased ending, and Elon almost becoming a trillionaire are the harbingers of the imminent release of hw5 and unsupervised fsd?

thanks for any insight.

by the way can you put a model s/x yoke in a cybertruck? I much prefer it to the squircle.

It will be interesting to know if the battery in the car will be increased or if they will bring back the extra battery pack for recharging. :)

There will always by something better on the horizon. ...except for lifetime fsd.

What will this give us? Only an improved FSD.
HW3 isn't as snappy with daily use and some updates don't come to it. It is still okay, but my partner who drives my HW3 vehicle says "it is a dinosaur" regularly.

My take on changing tech is I would genuinely be mad buying the outgoing model iPhone 2 weeks before the new one comes out. With Tesla I would feel the same, I wouldn't want to buy a vehicle deep into a HW generation. With HW4 being roughly 75% through its lifespan, we are pretty close to when I wouldn't buy a HW4 Tesla.

Tesla is missing a Model S sale to me for this reason. I was waiting for HW5 Model S to make my purchase, and it is never coming.

AI5 design is finished, but it will be the end of 2027 before mass production starts, and we see it in cars.

It is what it is with my Cybertruck already, but my wife is ready to trade in her AI2.5 Model3 for a new one. Not sure if we want to wait another 1.5 years or so, but what would give peace of mind to all buyers now and until AI5 comes out is if AI5 can be retrofitted into AI4 cars.

HW5 won't come to the Cybertruck until it is also ready to hit the robotaxi fleet without a steering wheel and upgraded camera cleaning solutions. I think they are currently working on camera retrofits, but it will be at our cost unless you purchased FSD outright. The cameras are going to need to be hooked into a washer fluid reservoir.

If it was me, and had the money, I would purchase now with the luxe package. The Cybertruck is beyond amazing and will only get better in the next revision (but I don't expect to see it within a year).

Some claim Model S production hasn't stopped yet. I don't know who to believe.

Only you can decide what’s best for you. The way I see it, their vehicles will continue to be improved for the foreseeable future. There will always be something better eventually. If you’re waiting for the absolute pinnacle you’ll be waiting forever. If what they offer today would make you happy, pull the trigger. I know I would (and did, well over a year ago).

Yes, you can put the yoke steering from S/X in CT.

There is always something better coming. If you listen to Elon, that something is always any day now. I'm so glad I jumped on Foundation Series, because otherwise I would be in the same spot that you are, always waiting for the perfect time.

Trust me on this- Get that truck as fast as you can, you will absolutely love it and not regret waiting a single moment.

Also right now Cybertruck is already autonomous. It's there. FSD is amaze-balls. The only thing holding back unsupervised is regulatory hurdles. Any future hardware upgrades will net diminishing results. Going from whatever you have to Cybertruck will be like going from a CRT monitor to 4k. Hardware 5 will be like going from 4K to 8K- I guess it's better but I can't tell.

Just my $00.02

Also consider there may be additional time after AI5 is in cars before FSD utilizes the capability of the new hardware. HW4 ran FSD in a HW3 emulation mode for years. It wasn't until FSD 13 that the software truly utilized HW4.

Hey, FSD... I was almost all the way home. Just turned off the highway at a light. Driving along, FSD suddenly braked. "Hey, my first phantom braking!". I overrode FSD and started in on the go pedal. Then, the phantom looked me in the eyes. Uncertain of its direction of travel. I stopped. We looked into each other's minds. Then, the phantom crossed the road with another deer and the other three stood unsure. I gave them a honk and they moved away from the road and I went on by.

I never would have seen the deer there at that time of day in that light there in the hard packed ice and snow beside the road.

FSD is here. Don't delay for "the next better version". There will always be another better version on the cusp of release. This version works. In DC Traffic and Maryland rural areas and highways and two-lane roads through the woods and rain and snow and blinding sun. It just works.

Now, I'm looking forward to the day I no longer have to roll back the right scroll wheel to slow the f$!K down... :p

I’d get the FSD purchase while I still could. When unsupervised is released, HW4 will be capable of it or Tesla will have to upgrade you for free. Don’t get the yoke until you’ve got time with the squircle— it’s perfect for me.
