I found this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08P8CSJZB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If it tapped into the headliner internal radar (which claims its 12v) on the tesla schematic, its long enough to reach the rearview mirror.
So that would be used to wire in a radar detector that has a USB C power cord? My detector is older and has one of those rj45 style phone jack plugs for power, which I think is represented in the earlier video above, or were you trying to depict something different and I'm just confused as to what you mean by the use of this part?

I ordered the Tesla tire air compressor kit with my referral points thinking I could use it on my two Teslas. Turns out it has a standard 12v cigarette lighter adaptor for power. HUH? If I paid for it I would send it back. There may be a workaround, but as soon as I saw the cigarette adaptor, I got dissappointed and set it aside...
Amazon has various 110VAC to 12VDC converters. Find one that has enough amps for whatever 12v devices you want, and plug it into one of the center console AC outlets, that should work. Given heat output, I might think twice about leaving one of the higher power ones running within the center console, but you should be able to tuck it away somewhere. Might try googling the interesting brands and models for reviews elsewhere, and esp. any safety pluses or minuses; wouldn't want it catching on fire.

Can anyone confirm the 12 - 15 volt circuit in the rearview camera housing--how many pins is that connector? 2? 3? Will any of these be able to tap into it with their respective OEM's plug/connector?

https://www.amazon.com/s?srs=120823954011

Maybe the BMW / Porsche / VW 3-pin, Volvo 3-pin, or Honda 3-pin? Because theoretically if any do fit it's just a matter of unplug, plug, attach it to the shroud and power up whatever radar detector or dashview mirror cam.

You can get a 7 pin trailer to 12V power port adapter off Amazon for <$20
Should provide 20 to 30 Amps.

I had trouble trying to figure out a place where I could place the radar detector up top. The Sunvisor six make it difficult to situate a radar detector. I guess the best alternative is to replace the rear view mirror. But I like a more stealthy install.

Instead, I made a mount that would hide the radar detector behind the screen. It attaches to the vent and you could slide it left to right.

Looks good! Where did you power it from, the ODB connector that the phone mount came with?

I followed the instructions and parts described in @edc's video. Tapped into the white connector as @edc recommended. I did not test the voltage, but Escort Redline 360c works with this connection point. I did have to set the detector to auto-off after 1 hour (lowest setting) otherwise it does not go off if sentry mode is turned on. Then it will turn on again automatically when I return to vehicle. I'm ok with it being hidden behind the visor.

Has anyone experienced FSD monitoring issues when using this tap location? I did it and it was quite simple but then I started having issues with my monitoring in FSD when it is dark. I had to keep on nudging the steering wheel since I was getting warnings that the camera monitoring was not working due to low light. I thought they fixed this issue in the Model X with IR lights. In any case, I took off the tap and the night monitoring works well. Maybe it was coincidental? I'm now looking for another place to get power from, just in case that caused the issue.

Oh no, you have tempted me with this. I smell a 12v to 2 USB ports mod in my future. I can put a rear view camera or a tablet up there.

I have a dash cam mounted in place of the mirror and have the power running across the ceiling, to a suction cup on the rear top glass then down to the USB-C...This would be waaaaay better! Have to look and see how much room there is to mount it.

Anyone have a tip to remove the center part (with 4 way flasher on it) I can't get mine to budge and it has to come down to get the front cover off with enough room to reach power in Chris video

hey man your not alone. I just got the 2025.2.8 update and now the radar no longer powers on and I have ir light issues at night. It seems to work in reverse now , whenever I exit the truck it turns on and once I hit the break and start the truck it turns off. I know the ir lights work when the truck is not “on” because if I check sentry and go to cabin it uses the IR lights. Did your issues pop up after an update by any chance?

I tapped into this location and it worked for three days. Then all of a sudden it stopped providing power to my radar detector.

Anyone having issues with their radars powering on? I’ve installed using the mirror wire tap method and it will not turn on when entering the truck or pushing the brake. Escort Max 360C.

If still needing to do so, you can use two trim tools as levers to pop off the ceiling shifter in a downward direction. One trim tool on each side, gently leveraging downward closest to the end of the ceiling shifter near the cabin camera as possible.

Just installed it today and seems fine. Turn on soon as truck is on. FSD at night is fine. So glad it’s done. Removed that mirror too. Very clean looking. Refreshing.
