Got a tire rotation scheduled in a couple weeks and I removed the cantrail replacement from the service line item.

is this something I need to remind them about? I’m reading some people are saying it’s mandatory and some are able to refuse this change?

mine are on solid and wrapped and I don’t have the time to get this done at this time.

I'm back in on the 29th to SC. Finding out if there is anything to some of these being 'cut short' or whats going on with the back plate these screw into. They told me best to do this during warranty vs take it on myself.

Based on everyone with light bars falling off, panels coming loose - mines just gaps and sharp points to catch your rag on. I'll report back.

Mine were fine and I had them replaced when I got the letter and parts were available. The new one started to come off so they replaced the passenger side again.

Thats almost exactly how mine looked, but I attempted to fix it myself and made it a measure better.
Tesla Cybertruck Anyone else holding off on the Cantrail recall? 1760567252066-qu

The mobile tech came out and told me "defective, schedule another". But I was able to loosen some Torx and I could pull it down where if I had a tail or a friend I think we had a chance at getting it flush. I got more mad when I got into the frunk though and spotted my wiper appliqué had the weather stripping busted off, the cover had a plastic pin bent and the wiper filler area you could see thru like something was missing. I just took it all apart but that wiper appliqué rubber stripping is held on with double tape it looks like.

I also went a bit deeper.. .I looked at the frunk and most of it didn't even contact the windshield rubber stripping. So no idea if that matters or not but why we have weather stripping in some spots and not around the edges of the frunk is a head scratcher.

To be clear - not negative Tesla. This to me seems more like a skillset/training issues that can be solved. Similar stuff I run into at body shops, tire shops etc, which is why I do 99% of it myself.

I just got the Tesla mail regarding the recall but mine are on pretty well and I'm just a little hesitant to have them touched. Anyone else in same boat?
Yes, I plan to put it off until panel starts to come loose.

Add me to the list that should have waited. Tesla Palo Alto service center lived up to its reputation.

The cantrails have a visible divet and discoloration on each side at the front, they are slightly twisted upward on both sides, and don't fit flush at the back (larger gap on one side vs the other.)

They also did the "precision glass cleaning" and a tire rotation. What I got was grease all over the windscreen inside and out, glue residue all over the cantrails, some which I can remove -- which includes palm prints of the tech. On the door too. The interior he did a number on, leaving mud or excessive dusty boot marks all over the floor front and back. And some extra palm prints for measure on the white interior panels.

I sent a note to the regional manager which naturally went into "let me know if you hear dialtone" bucket. The service writer called but when she realized a free tire rotation wouldn't make me happy she seemed to lose interest.

They asked me to return which I will, but only because I want these fixed. I spent over an hour cleaning as much of their crap and shoddy workmanship up.

The tire rotation also was messed up. They incorrectly reinstalled 3 of the 4 wheel covers. Fixed that too.

Sad developments -- it says volumes about where they are as a company.

Customer since 2012 here -- vehicles (10), energy, and more. Very disappointed.

My rails AND light bar are just fine. My SC told me you can hold off as long as you want.

Count me lucky I guess. I went ahead and had them replaced at the Salem OR location just as a liability issue - they were on ok. They were done in about an hour and a half. Alignment ok and no visible marks where the bolts are. They did charge me $62 to remove the front 2 rack rails I got from Cybertruckco and I had to reinstall them when I got back. Should have asked about them before going so I could have removed them myself . Otherwise no issues so far.

$62 bucks? I know neurosurgeons and orthodontists who would do that for less.

I had been holding off on replacing mine on my 37xxx VIN. The factory ones were almost perfect. Took the truck to the Council Bluffs, IA service center for a few error codes (DI_a015, UI_a019, parking brake related) that would randomly appear and eventually disappear. Reluctantly let them replace my cantrails. The new rails look great, just as good as the factory ones. ...oh, and they replaced the left rear brake caliper which was supposedly causing the error codes.

This is my first service center experience. I'm completely satisfied with their work. Sooo much better than any of my experiences with legacy auto service. No greasy hand prints on the steering wheel or gunk on the floor mats. Gave me a Model 3 Performance as a loaner, which was a lot of fun to drive.

I'm with the group holding off, just because I don't want to have to pay to rewrap those sections. Will continue to wait until there is a significant issue.

You can’t transfer your liability back to Tesla. The theory that you’re looking at is detrimental reliance and somehow that that risk back on Tesla and they would need to indemnify you. They won’t and it’s highly unlikely that any tribunal would make them.

This misinformation from the employee can’t shield you. The entity “Tesla” has already told you that you’ve got an unsafe condition and they have recalled your vehicle for repairs. That chain cannot be unbroken. The condition has already been deemed unsafe and you are allowing it to persist. Full stop.

Now, there are different rules with regard to joint liability, comparative negligence, etc. that will come in to play (and those vary by state) so, I’m not offering you any legal advice. And what you, I or anyone chooses to do is entirely up to you, me, them.

Everything we do in life involves taking risk. Getting out of bed is the main cause of not safely making it back into bed. You have to know and set your own tolerances.

I am observant and anal enough to believe that I will be able to spot any problem with my cantrails before they become a problem for me or anyone else. If I’m driving along and after having just inspected them they catastrophically fail and fly off and decapitate somebody, I’ll have nowhere to hide. My arrogance will have been the root cause. I will have taken Tesla’s design flaw (they’ve done their part by issuing a recall) and turned it into my problem through my actions.

That’s just the way it is.
Okay, but what if you got the recall notice, took the truck 40 miles each way to a SC, and they said it wasn’t required, did nothing? And no, my truck was a 2/25 build, does not have the added nut studs. Of course, all documented in the service section of the Tesla app.

I’d put your VIN in on epc.tesla.com and check recalls. They told me no action needed when I went in the first time too. Just to be sure.

I was at service center Friday for tire rotation and they asked if I wanted them changed (did receive the recall letter). I stated they were fine and did not want to pay to rewrap them. They checked them and said ok no worries.

I've been holding off on this recall, and my driver's side cantrail failed on the highway. So my PSA is don't wait too long.

That's not even the issue this recall is for. Yours didn't de-laminate, the nut that holds the backing on at the front came loose. That's supposed to be secured with thread lock.
