As a previous owner of an original Scout, I sure hope they threw out everything from the original design. The damn thing was a rust bucket, the steering was so loose you had to go from 3 to 9 to keep it going straight, the lap belts were well, not safe. Half the time I had to spray the carburetor to get it going. It was a heavy beast, but it was tough: you could stand on the hood or the roof and not dent it. Ours was 2 toned: white lower and black upper and we called it to the Skunk, because of the smoke/smell. It really didn't have any redeeming qualities. It was truly a product of the 70s.

Good thing the Scout EV will share zero mechanical parts with the original Scout then! ? I think we're gonna see a modern design revealed tomorrow rather than a retro / heritage look.

Oh, I agree 100%. It needs a clean slate (in more ways than one)!

Just watched. New scout bad af, but it’s a hybrid with a gas engine (range extender). That kind of defeats the low maintenance element.

The price seems aspirational even in today’s money. I hope they don’t Fisker themselves

It is unclear that you are looking at this in any detail vs just reading titles ;)

Indications are that the 'range extender' is an OPTION so it is primarily a battery EV.

Also, there is supposed to be like 80% user maintainable items on it.

Here is one short but fairly informative video - they also open the frunk, doors, and tailgate.

I’m definitely not reading haha. I watched the press release event, the grey haired dude said it needs gas and even though it does have projected 350 mile EV range - he made it seem like the range extender is standard. It was unclear. Almost everything both of the dudes said had a future tense connotation. If it was available today, and it truly is backed by VW, I would take a look. Right now they’re projecting a 2027 release date; we all learned with this cybertruck release, that a lot can change.
