My tint shop said there is no UV protection on factory tint on the roof. I went 70% windshield 15% everything ells including the roof I think it was 15 maybe 20. What ever he said would match the read door windows perfectly

I get it done tomorrow so let's see..never tinted any of my windshields before this. 30% is a bit much honestly but hey don't know until I try. I am going to ask him tomorrow if they had to special order the 30% roll, if not I may roll something lighter and maybe just do 70%? haha!

Well, you said you only put 15% on the front four. That would mean you didn't tint the rears darker and I don't need a photo because I do know already how bad it looks. I tint windows for a living, been doing it 35 years and I'd never put 15% on the front doors and leave it like that unmatched to the rear on any of my customers cars. 20% is even 5% darker than the rear windows.
But hey, that makes it uniquely yours?
If you do window tinting for a living, then know that window tint does add linearly. 30% + 23% doesn't = 53%. The new tint is only blocking 30% of the light passed through by the 23% glass. Also after a certain tint level it's too dark to be able to tell a difference between the font and back when they are just a few percent apart.

There definitely is UV protection from factory on all windows and roof glass. Careful with that tint on the roof, it's likely to overheat the glass and break it, $2,000 not covered under warranty.

So as I suspected, it had to be custom ordered so here goes 30% windshield it is.

That's insanely dark for a front windshield. I had 70% on another vehicle and hated it at night, took it off. If you ever get into an accident at night and injure someone else with 30% on your windshield your insurance will say good luck, and you will end up in a courtroom...

Where did I say 30% + 23% = 53%?? Yes in math that's correct a 8 yr old knows that but 53 is lighter than both the others, that wasn't me that said that. If you put 50% (53% off the roll) over top of the 23% rear dyed glass it meters at 12% and if you put 15% (my film is a 17% off the roll) on the front 72% green glass it puts it right at 12% as well. And as you can see, there is not even a 1-2% difference between front and rear windows on my truck. Trust me, I'm very particular about this and know what percentages all the factory glass is on just about every single make of vehicle when they fluctuates about 10% over different glass manufacturers. Hell, 29% film off the roll is 3% darker than the rear windows and when you apply it to the front 72% green glass it meters at 14-15% on a meter. That alone is almost 10% darker than the rear windows.

There are a couple film manufactures that offer a 25% film and that would be the closest to a perfect match to the rear that you can get. 20 and 15 are both at least 10% darker or more than the rear roll up windows. One of the best quality 25% in my opinion that I have sold in the past is SolarGard's Vortex IR 25 series film.

yeah I should've subtracted instead of added my example, my mistake. I didn't mean to imply "You" and tried to carefully leave that word of my comment and it might have slipped. That part of my comment was intended for all the other posts. My statement toward you was that at a certain level it's hard to tell the difference from the outside. I do have a question though. I've always noticed the factory rear tint, is almost always a different tone of color, compared to the front and all tints I've seen. They are usually more of a brown tint, while aftermarket tint has a more grey tone. Is there a way to fix this? I feel like that is more noticeable than the tint level, when within a couple of percent.

It's not so much that aftermarket tint doesn't match, like the tint I sell, off the roll you can hold it up next to the rear glass and it matches perfectly. The problem is, the factory glass is dyed throughout the entire thickness of the glass so on the outside you are looking at the tint. On the front doors, when it's installed, for one it's installed on the back side of green glass not clear glass like what was usedpre 1970. So if you install behind green glass, from the outside you now are looking at the film through not only 1/4 inch of glass but also green. So the glass is giving an illusion it's not as dark and it adds green tone to the film installed. A lot of the high end ceramic films are naturally more green hue which adds to the issue
