If I remember correctly when you toggle on slippery mode it says it will automatically turn it on if it feels the conditions merit it.
It does not.

Regen is on in both settings.

It just has to do with what happens when you come to a stop. It's either on ROLL, which is similar to being in neutral and your vehicle will roll if not on flat ground, or HOLD, which even when on a slope, will keep your vehicle stationary until you press the go pedal.
Roll does not exist in the Cybertruck. Only other Teslas.

One possible future solution if the SEXY Buttons ever come out for the CT - for the SEXY cars they allow % of Regen eg 25%, etc - this could help. Lot of if's/ when there but maybe! I think there's no adjustability from Tesla because the "worst" setting is what they base epa ratings off of...although dont think the CT is rated so maybe not.

slippery surface puts the vehicle into 4wd when beginning at a stop for optimal traction. otherwise from a stop you’ll be in front-wheel drive only (Beast) or rear-wheel drive only (AWD) until the vehicle detects slippage.

In off road mode. This isn’t applicable here where it doesn’t exist for the driving being discussed.

We were talking about offroad mode. Someone had mentioned how you could disable regen in offroad mode.

In any case, offroad mode or not, I was commenting on how these two options DO NOT affect regen. That was my point.

I've put this out there many times, the truck is dangerous in icy conditions with its regen. There's no mode that affects the regen to the point it needs to be which is off. I've driven it two winters now and the only thing you can do is keep a huge distance away from other cars and drive slow.

I think this is primarily a tire issue. I run up and down to our local ski resort on icy, snow covered roads almost every weekend. With Toyo open country AT3 tires (triple peak rated) I can use the regen on the very steep and windy road coming down with zero issues. I had the same tires on my previous F150 which was much more prone to oversteer/sliding in the snow than the CT. The factory tires are absolutely garbage in the snow.

My CT came with perelli scorpions and I have very little issue with traction in interior Alaska. We have a good inch of solid ice if not more on most surfaces, very little concrete and none outside of highway conditions. I do slide in well traffic areas where ice is just a glaze of uneven ruts but not as bad as the diesel bros

I've also been pleasantly surprised by the Pirellis here in CO.

I have been living in Wyoming and driving on snowpack and ice for several months every winter since the 1970s. The Cybertruck is the most surefooted vehicle I have ever driven other than a chained up road grader. I have never changed tires for the winter on any vehicle except a bicycle. Other than the first winter I lived here when I had a couple learning experiences, I have not had a problem. I learned to slow down and increase following distance. I don’t trust FSD yet on ice. It follows too close and doesn’t track the center line under snow well enough yet. Studded tires are fine. I use them on a mountain bike all winter. I don’t bother with them on vehicles, even the two wheel drive Mazda B2000 I had for many years. You can drive too fast for any equipment and conditions.

Yes, I wish the slippery surface mode would stay on between drives, but then people would forget to turn it off in the summer.
