I really don’t understand it. Why the hell do people think it’s called a “truck?” It just irritates me so much.
I think everyone on this forum should drive around with the tonneau down for a month as an informal campaign to inform people we are not over sized sedans.

Congrats OP, gl with that driveway!

Thanks for sharing your VIN! I was set to take delivery of a new CT on Friday, but they assigned me a 70xxx VIN. I reached out today and asked to be delayed until they could find one in the 80's. From what I read here, my 70xxx may have been a March build before the changes that improved the crash rating. Figure I might as well wait since I am not getting a tax credit and am paying full price.

When picking up my CT the Tesla rep said it was the first one he had seen in the 80XXX range. He was also surprised I got such a new one since there are apparently a bunch of them that have been sitting in the back for a while.

It wasn't luck though, when ordering I did the following: View Inventory > Ignored the Demo units that were discounted at ~1$/mile (I know how demos get treated) > Selected "New Vehicle" > Delivery date showed as "In Transit". Picking from Inventory instead of making a custom order also yielded 1 year of Premium Connectivity and Supercharging included for free.

Looking at it today, they have them available for immediate delivery (probably more than just mine arrived that day). Not sure if this is a fool proof way to get a newer chassis, but that was the steps I took.

One other thing worth noting: if you choose to finance like I did, the 60 month promotional rate is 2.49% but it drops to 0% with FSD purchased. FSD won't push you over the 80K limit for the federal tax incentive since it's software. If you compare the total cost of the loan over 5 years at 2.49% vs 0% it is about $3500. In other words, the effective increase in total out-of-pocket money is $3500 for an $8000 upgrade that cost $15000 not that long ago. To me, it was a no brainer to get FSD.

Thanks, and we did the same thing with FSD to get 0%. I dont quality for the EV credit either way on a purchase due to income limits, so getting it before 9/30 wont cause me any problems. I'll try the suggestion you made, but I really wish they put the VIN on the site too!

We picked up our new 2025 CT yesterday, purchased from "Inventory" that was in transit to get a year of premium connectivity and Supercharging free. This will be replacing my 2009 BMW 335i (E92, AKA coupe), since house ownership and a family will do that to ya.

Test drove twice before committing. Knew that air ride and rear steer were amazing features since our X7 has them as well (toned down versions compared to the CT). It's our first pickup and first EV, but it just checks all the boxes weirdly enough.

Only problem I noticed is that the steering wheel makes a click when passing 10 or so degrees past center. Sounds like plastic trim or flash that's snagging. If anyone has insight, please comment to save me the SC visit.

This forum has been very useful for finding info not listed elsewhere. I'm a mechanical engineer and work at a self driving car company, so I hope I can contribute in the future. Though part of the reason we went EV was to avoid most of the maintenance involved with keeping high performing vehicles running right.

Cheers!

Greetings and congrats,

I had similar noise. Turned out to be a piece of plastic underneath the steering column. It was out of place and made a terrible cracking/plastic breaking noise when adjusting steering in, mostly, or out. I took it in for a service visit. They basically pushed the plastic piece further in out of the way and called it a day. Stopped the noise.

Welp, it couldn't stay factory fresh forever. Earlier today I had an aloof motorcyclist merge into the side of my CT while I was passing slower traffic (him included). I feel terrible that he got pretty banged up (luckily sub 20mph speed). I was very thankful that I had the composure to record the dashcam footage leading up to the crash. Also very thankful to have the stainless exterior, since even his metal grip guard barely left a scratch down the side of the truck (couldn't feel it with my fingernail). If I had gone with the Lightning I was originally eyeing I'd have no surround footage of the accident and thousands in paint repair that would never be factory quality. Hoping he has a speedy recovery and wears a helmet/leathers/boots in the future. Could have seriously reduced his injuries .

Are we doing No-Tonneau November now? That’s sooo much better than the alternative.

Decided to avoid using insurance since the local body shop that is "Tesla Approved" seems to be very hit or miss. Tesla spec'd refinishing discs, Milwaukee M12 6" RO Sander, 3M Soft Interface Pad, passenger mirror cover, and rear passenger fender flare are all coming by this weekend. I'll try to make a post and video of the refinishing process. From the looks of this video, though, I think I'll be fine. I've polished tarnished stainless to mirror and then brushed finish when refinishing our dining room chairs.

Took most of the day, but it's back to OEM, light tiger striping and all! Tomorrow I'll re-passivate the surface with CitriSurf77 and put the plastic back on. Mirror skull cap and rear fender flare shipped to my house for $150 and full manuals on how to do everything provided by Tesla without even a login requirement?!? It's a DIYer's wet dream.

My vin was 70xxx and was built in late June.

Passivated the affected panels with CitriSurf77. Kept the panels wet by basically perpetually applying another coat of the liquid with a microfiber applicator pad. Light pressure to reduce runs in case it affects the plastic trim. In hindsight, I should have degreased the surface a bit better since some fingerprints and other oils were causing the CS77 to not fully wet out in those areas. No biggie, there's always next time 😅

Just waiting on the new rear fender flare from Tesla EPS to come on Tuesday and it'll be good as new (maybe better given the finishing work I saw on other panels)

How many discs did you go through? I'm curious haw far a pad will go before needing replacement.

It's a bit tricky to answer. Initially all of the discs will have their maximum abrasion, but this also leads to most of the random pigtail swirls that you can see in the OEM finish sometimes. Over time, with heat/pressure/time they will begin to lose their cut and settle into a consistent finishing plateau. As long as you don't damage them by hitting irregularities or going over sharp corners, I think I could have gotten away with 1 of the fine/very fine discs and 2 of the mediums.

I think my mistake was using the medium ones for the deeper scratches where I should have used something like 800 grit sanding disc for more efficient material removal. So a 20 pack should be enough for a lifetime 🙃
