Mad Max used to be a tad scary. Now it's just a tease. Am finding that I need to keep my foot on the accelerator just to drive a reasonable speed when off the highway. What the heck is up with all the flashing blue and red banners?! Not even driving CLOSE to what Mad Max USED to do!

Same. 14.1.7 was still the best for speed profiles. They were a little better in 14.2.2.3, but back to bad in 14.2.2.4. My truck wanted to go 38 in a 45 on Mad Max...had to keep hitting the pedal.

It’s not just mad Max. Mine does that when I’m in standard mode. I’ll be in a 45 mile an hour speed zone and it’ll have me at 35 and then the speed limit increases, it won’t even try and catch up to the speed limit.

In standard mode, the truck will not slow down when entering a school zone and the speed limit drops to 20mph from 30, 35 or 40.
Elon PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD!

Yesterday rolled up to a No-RIght-On-Red-8AM-6PM at 5PM.

Truck turned right on red. I was a tad surprised.

FSD must have detected no police in sight 😉

On a similar "failure or inability to read/process road signs", mine gave a nice full stop when turning right when there was a big old "except right turn" sign beneath the stop sign.

My favorite is rolling into the big downhill car speed limit 45 doing about 70 (it's a 4 lane divided highway) and the truck reads the TRUCK speed limit sign 20 and slows down ridiculously. It takes me a few seconds to re-learn what is going on and by then the primer-spotted junker that I just passed has passed me back wondering what the heck my stupid problem is. 🙄🤦

Haha… in Moab they have speed signs that are split and have a normal speed limit and a UTV speed limit which is 10 under normal due to Utah State law. Guess which one the CT chooses? Hint: it’s not the standard speed limit.

I don't think there are any public branch FSD versions that are allowing it act upon [edit] *all* speed limit signs yet; still using government provided GIS data.

Well, it does. It slows me to the lower version (UTV) rather than the upper version (standard).

Come out and give a visit and see for yourself. ;)

They also most certainly read speed signs.... they switch in construction zones, etc. Sometimes, they even ignore some of the standard signs.

and... from ChatGPT:

Yes, Tesla vehicles read speed limit signs in real-time using their camera-based Tesla Vision system and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. Introduced via software update 2020.40.3, this feature enables the car to detect, interpret, and adapt to posted speed limits, including temporary ones in construction zones, often overriding, or supplementing, outdated GPS map data.

Well it certainly ignores them in Nebraska. We had speed changes on the highways a few years ago. A lot of the times FSD will just go at the lower speed that existed previously. I even tried updating the speed info in Google to see if it will eventually be used by FSD. It's been a few months, still no changes. Speed limit will be 70 and it keeps going at the old 65 limit as it passes at least five signs that say 70mph. I just switch to hurry mode from standard in these areas.

Spanish Valley drive in Moab between Resource Blvd and Falcon Ridge Rd.

Update: Sorry… above is one of 30mph signs. the 25mph in the pic is at Mill Creek Rd near Loveridge Dr… see below with the red circle.

Looks to me like those back roads are missing the GIS speed limit data. Tesla uses a whole bunch of aggregated state and federal databases for speed limits, so if roads are missing they have to fall back to surrounding traffic context awareness, last known good speed limits, etc. It's a complex algorithm, but basically they aren't allowing FSD to just simply read road signs and obey them as gospel (yet).

And it's not as easy as flipping a switch either. These types of systems are extremely hardened, and it's not that difficult to introduce REALLY bad errors; say for instance, how do you ensure FSD doesn't obey a sign placed by a prankster for 99 mph on a 4 lane avenue? or 1 mph in a neighborhood?
