Well, many states still regulate phone use, browsing, texting, while driving, even if FSD is in use. Elon is just saying the driver monitoring is more relaxed in safer traffic situations. All the crying about the driver monitoring being too strict can now go into the trash bin where it always belonged.

This is the cue for all the people who think it's too easy to *not* pay close enough attention to the road on FSD to start moaning and bellyaching!

The change has been quite noticeable for me with v14.2.1. If I'm stopped at a light and pick up my phone for a minute, or play with my music settings while driving on a mostly empty road, it never nags at all. I've even picked up my phone to record a clip while moving in traffic, no nag - under v13, even touching my phone would get me an instant warning.

I posted about it last week, along with a bunch of other people here reporting the same thing, it's nice to see it confirmed.

Mine was still unhappy with my phone indiscretions today, but that was in a parking lot and not the freeway. Didn’t know this was a thing yet.

Just got this. FYI, you can look at phone if you have a vent mount to the left of squircle. I think it doesn’t know if you’re looking at the roads or not 🤣. Almost no warnings. But it’s the safest spot anyway to keep road in sight.

What are the people going to complain about next that were complaining about the nagging? Remember the Toyota/Lexus guy saying Tesla FSD was worse than Toyota/Lexus on the highway because of nagging?? What complaints will they have now? Lets make a bet... :)

Don’t worry, Dan O’Dowd will tell the sheeple what to be mad about at the time.

It's funny to me that people are flipping out over this and not the fact that no other manufacture monitors drivers for attentiveness. With this release, Tesla is simply starting to do the same thing as everyone else when you use your phone which is...nothing.

Can you list any manufacturer with a L2 ADAS that doesn't monitor?

I know Ford, GM, Lucid, and Mercedes do not allow you to use your phone.

You are correct. I should have been more specific. I was referring to the majority of cars that don't have ADAS systems that don't have any type of monitoring.

Elon Musk confirming that FSD v14.2.1 will allow the driver to text and use phone depending on your surrounding traffic.

Could this be the meaning behind the "Hands Free" messages I've been seeing? It's pretty much always hands free so I found these messages confusing. Maybe it means "Hands [and eyes] free"?

No. Those hands free messages just mean that eye monitoring is enabled.

I dont use my phone when driving, but I do like to change music and driving options and map locations on my screen, but it tells me to pay attention to the road. I hope it will give ME more time to look at what I am trying to do before it tells me to watch the damn road!!!

I totally agree with this. They put a giant screen in the vehicle for the purpose of controlling said vehicle. Yet, if I look at it to change a setting or update my navigation for even a second, the vehicle freaks out.

The clowns (Dan O'Clown's) latest call for FSD to be banned is that FSD refuses to drive if the cameras are covered with snow!

Imagine that!
