Apteras look so cool! congrats on the reservation!
They're making another attempt at manufacturing! They have the validation parts for a new design they have all the arrangements to get the parts manufactured for, so... So close!

So since someone brought it up... Yeah, they're getting close again. Andwhile I can't afford the Cybertruck at the moment I can still afford the target price of the launch edition (tho I'm somewhere around 6000 in the queue).

So... New prototypes, they're going to start making validation and intent models this fall for target of shipping next fall. They had to swap motor suppliers due to availablility and swap to a composite shell due to cost considerations, but you can see they're still focusing on fewest parts possible, following in Tesla's footsteps.

The Launch Edition is only going to come in one variant.

And props to Ricky for getting the job as presenter for this article ^-^

Lastly, one of the prior prototypes - probably Gamma - will be in San Francisco the weekend of the 14th for viewing.

I’m sure those will hit the open market as soon as the Elio I ordered gets delivered…
Unlike Elio, Aptera has put out monthly updates, pictures of parts, details of agreements as they make them and the story of getting towards production agreements and even when those agreements fail and they need to make them anew.

I cite one of these updates.

I have a reservation for both a CT and an Aptera as well. When i first started looking at the Model S back in about 2006 or 2007 or so, the OG iteration of Aptera was a potential competitor that ended up going under which bummed me out big time. When they resurrected, it made me happy because their design is pretty awesome IMHO and the solar powered possibilities with it are amazing, especially mated to the safety features. It’s looking like they will make it to market and I couldn’t be more pleased about that. I hope you get yours sooner than later. I want the deets.

Cheers

I did add to the conversation. Just because you didn’t like it doesn’t make me wrong.

I can't wait for this thing to release. It'll take away from the hate toward the cybertruck, for being ugly and "worst car ever". Once the media switches to this, people will love the CT.

I gave up on Aptera two weeks ago and got my $100 back. After being burned by Elio, I'm seeing too many of the same red flags. I don't doubt the intent to build and market the Aptera, just the feasibility of it becoming a reality. I think it costs too much for a vehicle that is realistically only good for commuting, which would require most people to have two vehicles instead of one that can serve multiple purposes (commuting, trips, family, etc.). I still hope Aptera can pull it off and survive, but think it isn't likely.

LOL. I gave up on Aptera over a decade ago. Got my $500 deposit back just before their first bankruptcy in 2011. I am amazed it hasn't stopped kicking yet.

As Elon has said, "Manufacturing is hard."

A) It has a launch price lower than the launch price of the Leaf.
B) It will charge faster in miles than a Cybertruck - on a cruddy low-power fast charger. With an efficiency of 100W a mile, that means a 50kW charger is putting up to 500 miles an hour into it.

It had stopped kicking. But the dream didn't. This is the second attempt, and the third set of prototypes. Unlike the others, though, they have the tooling made for production.
