CarPlay support could come to Teslas as soon as the end of this year, according to a new report from Bloomberg.
The report says that Tesla is testing CarPlay support internally. Tesla has “discussed a rollout of CarPlay in the coming months, but a plan hasn’t been finalized and a release could come later,” Bloomberg explains.
Tesla is said to be testing the standard version of CarPlay, not the more advanced CarPlay Ultra. Its implementation of CarPlay will reportedly showcase CarPlay as a separate window inside the typical Tesla software interface.
The two interfaces will coexist rather than CarPlay take over the entire experience like it does in some other cars.

I wanted this years ago, just because change is hard. Now I don’t think I’ll ever use it. I’ve come to like Tesla’s navigation system and Bluetooth phone and messages work just fine for me.

It's more of the messages/phone app that I think will make this worth it.

Yeah, and either way options are good. I might find myself using it again once available.

Argh, I guess that may sway some people into buying a Tesla, but I for one think Tesla did a better job at this than Apple did. Sticking to the native UI.

Personally, i want this for better Apple Music and siri integration… the current version of apple music app in Tesla is frustrating to use. You cant sort your library by artist or title, it automatically loads them by the order they were added to the library…

When I was shopping for a car a while back, Ford was transitioning from SYNC2 to allowing Carplay to run in the newer SYNC3 cars. That alone was enough for me to wait for another model-year to get my Mustang.

SYNC was horrible, and so freaking laggy. Why wouldn't I want my phone to handle the hard part?

When I got my S I thought I was going to hate not having carplay, but I was wrong.

I think this will totally interest people who were in a similar state of mind for their decision making.

I think the reason this didn't happen sooner is both Apple and Android demand a crazy level of access to vehicle telemetry (so they can data harvest, of course).

I assume Apple was the first one to fold on this.

Personally, I'd be happy with just the CarPlay Messages and Phone apps, but I won't complain about more options!
I am with you there. The ease of talking or sending text messages and maps is a lot easier in CarPlay and that would be about 98% of my use case Standard would work fine.
