Consider taking your phone if you step out of your truck. I was at a boat ramp Saturday, got out of the truck to chat with someone. I had my windows down and phone in the truck.

After a minute or so I heard my lock sound and my windows went up. I guess the Bluetooth disconnected. Truck was I the middle of the lot and in the way.

I do keep a key in my wallet, which was in the truck.

After 20 minutes or so I tracked down my son who is an additional driver. He unlocked truck from 1200 miles away.

Learned a long time ago: Always bring your key card. (For the just in case scenarios.)
Once on a road trip, the truck randomly forgot my phone key. Thankfully, Tesla allows you to assign it once you log into your account via your phone and the truck is able to connect via cellular. But I was in a remote town in TN without cell signal. Thankfully, I had my key card on me and I was able to unlock the truck and re-assign my phone to it. Something you only have to learn once. Ha

Hopefully the latest update (phone left behind indicator), keeps the door unlocked........

Yes, the phone-key is enormously convenient the vast majority of the time. But I, too, have experienced the very rare occasion where it suddenly doesn't work.

My protocol is to always grab both my phone and my wallet - where the key card lives - whenever I step out of the vehicle. The key card has saved the day a few times.

Forget the keycard, I leave it in the locked glovebox. But I'm also an Apple Watch toolbag so I have two keys on me at all times...always have a backup.

I've been paranoid about this since my model Y days, I leave a door cracked open most times if I am working in the vicinity of the truck. I carry a key card all the time with me. But I just realized I probably haven't set up a key card for my Apple Watch, d'oh.

I drive out to the country on a weekly basis. When I get to the gate I set the truck to not lock. Even then I don’t really trust it with the phone in the car. But it makes me feel better if my phone were to die while I’m out there. I do keep a key card in my purse which tends to stay in the truck. I tested once setting up an unlock profile, but when I got close with my phone it changed profiles and locked. So I click through a couple screens each time.

But if the outlets don't turn on unless the vehicle is on, the Starlink doesn't turn on, right? And the vehicle doesn't turn on unless it's unlocked with a valid keycard? At least that's how it works in my truck, the Starlink doesn't activate until I am in the truck and ready to go.
That’s true. Of course you can ā€œkeep outlets onā€ and/or ā€œkeep accessory power onā€ to work around that. My mini is wired to my frunk feed which works separately from all of the above options. Works really well.

I highly recommend getting a ring similar to this one from CNICK on Amazon. I always have 4 keys on me: Apple Watch, phone, CNICK ring, and keycard in my wallet.

Reminds me of the razor blade wars. Only 4? Why not 5? Hell, let's do 6! Ring for each finger. Maybe toes as well? I have 32 backup keys...
