PCS Failure - Can’t charge at all

The replacement time for Cybertruck PCS is 4.2 hours which is less than the 2021+ Model S time of 4.62 hours.

If the Cybertruck was a three row SUV, it would be under the seat, but the aux bay is under the tonneau roll up mechanism. So cover and air tank need removed.

I suppose if one were to buy the right tools and were motivated to, they could do the swap in their driveway.

Oh, definitely. Especially since Tesla has subscription options for the diagnostic software.

May this never happen to you. I have 138 miles to last me until my service center appt on Monday. Even though Grok says I can usually charge at Superchargers, I just tried and I cannot. It says supercharger failure but I tried a different one and got the same message.

My home charging ended early and threw up a message “AC charging unavailable”. Service center appt required. I made the appt but the earliest is Monday. Nothing unusual about my home charging or state of charge being too low or too high.

I have 51,000 miles. I’m out of standard warranty so hopefully this will be considered part of battery drivetrain warranty. Grok says it could go either way and if I have to pay it’s around $4k.

OP did you have any PCS-adjacent symptoms or prior incidents before this charge failure?
I’m at 49,3xx, recently had a power failure on the freeway that is making me nervous with your current quandary and price tag. My SC said it was just a voltage-low situation (I was approaching a Supercharger at 2%), not a PCS failing. I’m skeptical, have done that same approach to supercharge at low SOC countless times.

btw, they stated my service menu log was littered with errors, my only big beef was only getting max 105kw at a TSC

Yes I have. Rear inverter went out and had to be towed in and replaced. The screen went out (different event) completely after a week or so of error beeps and blinking on and off. Tonneau and tailgate buttons had to be replaced (different event). Plus I had all the recall fixes like front overhead console, camera fan, wire harnesses, etc.

I have a whole list of repairs that have been done since March 2024 when I took delivery. I love the truck but I think it’s also a “lemon”.

What type of power failure?
PCS would cause 48V issues if the DCDCs both went bad, but that's separate from the ACDC charging section.

Yes, but I don't own a 2021 S. 1.5 hours for a 2017.

Replacing the onboard charger on a 2017 Tesla Model S typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours of labor.
The process involves disabling the high-voltage system, removing the rear trunk trim or seats (depending on the specific configuration), and disconnecting coolant lines. If you are having this done at a Tesla Service Center, expect a total appointment time of 3–5 hours including diagnostic and testing.

Again just lift the seats and you pretty much are done. Yet you don't have an S Nathan. Just doing the Google searches.

So again why did Tesla make it so complicated for a PCS swap when the old on board charger swap was easier.

Yes the PCS is a different animal, but the failure rate seems to be pretty high even though a non scientific sampling.

Well yeah, I never made a secret of the fact that I didn't fit in nor own any Teslas pre-Cybertruck.

As to why Tesla changed the architecture of separate charger modules to PCS, I'd guess there were a few reasons:
The under seat setup was vulnerable to liquids spilled in the back seat
The process required unbolting and refastening a bunch of HV connections
The overall assembly was much more expensive and complex than an integrated unit
Minimal isolation from the HV to the cabin in the event of a fault (somewhat similar to old VWs with the battery under the seat) .
