I totally agree with this. They put a giant screen in the vehicle for the purpose of controlling said vehicle. Yet, if I look at it to change a setting or update my navigation for even a second, the vehicle freaks out.
Your driver monitoring behaves differently from mine.

I can always look at the center screen for a lot longer than one second before it gives me a warning to pay attention.

Wow, yours is definitely different than mine then. It starts yelling at me before I can accomplish anything on it. Even hitting the button to locate nearby chargers is too long.

The clowns (Dan O'Clown's) latest call for FSD to be banned is that FSD refuses to drive if the cameras are covered with snow!

Imagine that!
He’s really having to scrape the bottom of the barrel to come up with reasons at this point. I think his ā€œmovementā€ is about over.

Well, many states still regulate phone use, browsing, texting, while driving, even if FSD is in use. Elon is just saying the driver monitoring is more relaxed in safer traffic situations. All the crying about the driver monitoring being too strict can now go into the trash bin where it always belonged.

This is the cue for all the people who think it's too easy to *not* pay close enough attention to the road on FSD to start moaning and bellyaching!
But they’ll never catch you. The truck will be watching for cars(police) and when they get near, it’ll tell you to put it down.

I purchased a CT-specific dashboard tray that holds my phone (landscape mode) in front of me but out the internal camera's view . . . simply so I can push next on a YT video, music playlists or whatever without getting warned by FSD. Even with the tray, I don't watch anything on the phone while driving, and I'm generally supportive of the warning system concept.

Now if we could just do something about the idiots without FSD who drive in the "fast lane" while looking at their phones way more than the road. Everyone would be safer and get where they're going faster.

This is a very noticeable and welcome change. No so much to text while driving, but even being able to use the Tesla screen to adjust the AC, navigation or see cameras. It was so annoying before and would get angry quick.

I test my trick to see if we can go back to steering wheel torque checks.

So there I was about 15 cars back from a multi-car accident. I'm in the left lane. We've been sitting for a while. There are cop cars all over the place up ahead. No traffic is getting through. None.

Suddenly, fluffy kind of lurches to the left. I grabbed the steering wheel and straighten it up and think what the hell man.

But then I see all the flashing lights in my right mirror. Oh, fluffy knew what the hell she was doing. I should have just learned to do her thing.

And that, my friends, was the first time that I got to experience FSD getting out of the way for a fire truck. I hope everybody in the accident was okay.

Happy Friday! Did. Be thankful you made it home safely. Not everybody did.

The change has been quite noticeable for me with v14.2.1. If I'm stopped at a light and pick up my phone for a minute, or play with my music settings while driving on a mostly empty road, it never nags at all. I've even picked up my phone to record a clip while moving in traffic, no nag - under v13, even touching my phone would get me an instant warning.

I posted about it last week, along with a bunch of other people here reporting the same thing, it's nice to see it confirmed.
Same experience, less nag was actually the truck letting me text a bit here and there.
This is a bigger deal than people realize, a small step towards FSD.
FSD = me being able to text, sleep, or watch TV in any seat in the truck while it dries
FSD = the truck going to pick up my kids at school

FSD =/= the truck kinda driving with me ready to save it from killing us both in an instant

I see the texting thing as a signal that we might actually see true FSD by the end of the decade.

If you mount your phone on a screen mount and sit low enough to have it at eye level you will get no nagging on v13. If you sit too high relative to the phone it will nag you a lot. I can use my phone and it doesn’t see it at all. I’ve watched an entire movie while driving on the highway. v14 still too risky from what I can tell, I beta tested all of v13 so I’m not doing that again.

Cyberkaren services may soon be needed elsewhere with FSD deciding where to park the car. Gotta figure out what the Cyber-HOA will allow and scold the noncompliant.
