Apparently so; their protocol much like the Cantrail recall will post in service on your app when your turn comes up.
Hmmm, if that’s the case. So, sometime in 2026 then. I’m still waiting for the recall for my cantrail recall which hasn’t showed up on my app. I did get an official letter in the mail about it, but after that crickets. So, I will surmise, it will be even a later date for this recall.

I am going in later today for the camera cleaning. The “You need to get the camera cleaned”.message popped up with Cantrail recall replacement recommendation. I advised SC to delete the Cantrail replacement service for another time.

So wait, do they drill into the side of the lightbar too? How do those screws attach? Anyone know?
There's a little piece with the bolt threads that fits into the end of the lightbar. It kind of slots in there. But, the real hold is "pinching" the two sides inwards. The left and right brackets hold those fitted pieces in place and the light bar can't move. If you were to remove say, the left bracket, and the lightbar wasn't glued down, you'd be able to slide the lightbar towards the removed bracket and off your truck.

Trying to explain this... Okay, the lightbar is that little spring roll that holds toilet paper in your bathroom. The new brackets are the two arms sticking out from the wall that holds the toilet paper spring roll in place. As long as there are two arms, the roll stays in place. Remove one and you are chasing a toilet paper roll.

Love that analogy. Thanks for explaining it.

Wouldn’t it be great if they brought back Twisted Metal the game, and made this the final boss. I’d say single battling gun on top that pivets and locks onto moving targets. With the rocket launcher pod that comes up from the bed hidden under the cover. And the front opens 1/4 of the way to reveal, another row of short range rockets.

it is described in the service bulletin with photos. Looks like it replaces the side plastic cover and clips in.
Those fit into the ends and it's the pressure from the left and right brackets that keep the lightbar from being able to move.

That looks so Mickey Mouse'd, it's embarrassing. So, you stick on two brackets that are flat black which overlap the ends of a gloss black lightbar. That really makes aesthetic sense. Just like that huge dimple on the replacement cant rails that sticks out like a sore thumb after you wrap them (and Tesla reimburses $300 in Tesla credits which are useless and doesn't even cover the cost of the re-wrap).

Just some thoughts on the solution from someone who's been doing something identical in a rust belt climate:
  • They're likely using stainless fasteners, because the only thing that looks worse that silver on black is rust on anything. A vendor used black oxide on some sensors to match the black plastic fascia...they were all spotting rust after one Pittsburgh winter.
  • I didn't know this existed, but it could be a solution to try out if the supplied fasteners are stainless: https://www.birchwoodtechnologies.com/products/black-oxide/stainless-steel/room-temperature/
  • You could also try replacing the screws with black oxide ones, but maybe ceramic coat, use Boeshield, or soak them in Fluid Film and wipe off the excess?
  • I really hope they make some sort of drill jig with drill guide bushings installed for that additional hole. When you have CAD of the car it's MAYBE a half day's work to do some surface offsets and make a self keying drill jig. Makes for accurately placed holes even on convex surfaces (like an A-Pillar). And as someone mentioned, get a drill depth collar or FFS put some blue masking tape on the bit.
  • Those drill bits are going to be 1 car per use, especially if they are using a hand drill and the tech things speed is his friend. Without cooling they'll dull out crazy fast.

One last thing I noticed from other repair articles: the finish, color, and texture of parts shown in the repair doc may be different than the final product.

Well, my lightbar is wrapped dark blue like my cantrails so it might require some ppf surgery but even if I fuck it up it’ll be covered by the bondage outfit style brackets.

This just happened to mine 15 minutes ago…immediately after a service visit to clean the inside windshield…

I have already had it repaired once…glad it happened before hitting the highway.

Wow! How long ago was it installed? I was one of the first to get one installed in the Bay Area, but it is definitely not as hot in CA as AZ.

Great concept to actually use a mechanical fastener.
Mine was also schedule for install and then put on hold, so I guess I will get the bracket.
Good thing now hopefully I don't have to worry about it falling off.

First install was May 12, re-glue was September 2…so, I suppose these are good for 3 months or so :)

That said, I don’t have the option of getting an overnight loan car to let it sit at the service center for 24 hours or whatever the recommendation is…Tesla doesn’t let you take loaners out of state and my closest service center is 90 miles away in Nevada.

Anyhow, I pulled over and quickly cut the wire to render the vehicle drivable and went straight back to the service center that I left literally 2 minutes prior…

While being a subject of the People’s Republic of Commiefornia has its downsides compared to being a citizen of the American west, the biggest downside out here is that everyone in the tumbleweeds is incompetent…three days ago, the day my PowerShare gateway was installed, it started instantly smoking on first test…Tesla is an awesome company in the big picture sense…but in the little picture sense not so much.
