From the photos in the service bulletin, this fix assumes the lightbar has been installed correctly in the first place, so that it's flush with the sunroof. Many that I've seen have been installed higher than shown in the photos below, which means the bracket won't fit properly without some kind of spacer between bracket and drilled hole, which means the applique will sit up higher once the bracket is installed. I raised this concern when they installed mine, but they claimed it was "within spec".
This is a very valid point.. I didn't think of it. They will probably just bend the shit out of the bracket portion that sits on the newly drilled hole to make it fit.

Yeah. I’m back to, “No f-ing way Jose!” They can do this if mine falls off. Not otherwise. I don’t use this word often but this “solution” is cockamamie!
But cockamamie is a such a great word. It’s a rare gem in the English language which may as well be called Americanese now . Up there with cattywampus.

There are still FS CBs which have not been called for their lightbar installation. Until the aforementioned fix is supplied to SCs I doubt you will see lightbars at the Tesla shop. Best bet is EBay or Face market place if you need one badly. There are three OEMs in boxes on eBay now.
I was able to purchase the Lightbar (v3) via the EPC site back in September. I did a part number search, put it in my cart, paid for it and it showed up at my house via UPS in about 4 days.

It's not listed in EPC any longer, however... neither are all the "fix" parts, so it looks like for now - we wait.

Just out of curiosity (and I am sure others would be interested) was the price listed thru the EPC site?

On the light bar? Yes - it was $2500 on EPC just as it was/is in the app.

However, neither it nor the "fix" parts are coming up by search in EPC today, so it's like Tesla pulled them for whatever reason.

Maybe they come back? Maybe the lightbar was never really supposed to be sold via EPC? I don't know, tbh.

Thank you. So you have to be a body shop?
You do not - anyone can order parts from there... or at least that's how it's worked in the past.

Someone(s) in the design and engineering phase most likely thought of the issue of detaching after certain conditions were met. You can see that as the light bar still has the indents for some sort of mounting stabilizer. I am sure someone higher up the food chain did not like the look and over road that plan that due to the final look. I am also pretty sure the same happen with the cantrail trim. Someone high up wanted a total sleek look and they choose the glue/tape methods.
Not even sure they did real world testing as you can simulate what will happen after exposure to various real world situations. Also you members mentioning cost, that may have also been a contributing factor as when multiplied by building 15K-25K (original goals most likely) units a year or the long term goal of say 75K CT's even small expenses add up.

Now that issues are cropping up after time they are going back to plan "A".

FYI that Tesla parts just called me to let me know that the lightbar rework parts aren't available yet for OTC purchase.

I had opened a service request on my CT to try to order the parts list and even though they're going to close the request, the order still stays on my account and they said they would notify me when the parts are available for order.

They asked me to check in with them in 30-45 days if I haven't heard anything from them in the meantime.

So - there's that. :)

Just to chime in on the parts ordering:
  • They recently started redirecting me to https://parts.tesla.com/en-US/landingpage from the EPC website after I log in with my owner Tesla credentials. Seems like this might be what they transition to for direct to owner parts purchases.
  • I've placed two orders through there and the experience has been smooth. Both times it was for exterior plastic trim pieces. Parts arrived relatively quickly and in-tact to my door.
    • Positives
      • I'm always surprised how well documented their parts catalog is, showing clear diagrams that you can zoom in on (complete opposite of my experience with tracking down obscure parts for my BMWs).
      • Parts are CHEAP. $55 for a rear wheel fender flare is insane given the size of that tooling and associated NRE
    • Negatives
      • The shipping is wildly expensive IMO. They must not have a good contract negotiated with UPS. Most of the time the shipping is equal to my parts cost. This may be avoidable by ordering from SC, but I don't know.
  • As for the stuff not available direct to owners: I'm pretty sure nothing is stopping you from making an LLC and using that business info to receive whatever parts you want to order.

All good points and I see the same thing on my side as well, so I'll confirm what you're saying. I checked both the parts site and the EPC site for the lighbar rework parts and they weren't listed on either and the lightbar itself wasn't able to be ordered on either, so that's what prompted me to open the service ticket - I've placed many parts order that way in the past for my S and Y and it's always worked out really well. The SC gets the parts for me, I drive up and pick them up and they charge the credit card on file - easy and clean.

As for the stuff not available direct to owners: I'm pretty sure nothing is stopping you from making an LLC and using that business info to receive whatever parts you want to order.
I've considered doing that, but I have a good friend with a LLC that runs an EV maintenance side hustle and I asked him to see if he could order the parts for me, and he can't either (at least not right now) - his searching comes up empty as well.

they should really supply black screws or we can use black touchup/nail polish on the heads. would the lightbar now be available to purchase for all?
I was talking to my local service advisor, and he said that they are black maybe this was an early test and that is all they had?
