Potentially the most interesting thing about the new FJ Cruiser is the pricing. I don't think Toyota has released official pricing yet, but it will be made in Thailand rather than Japan, which should keep costs down.
As for pricing, the latest reports suggest that the Land Cruiser FJ could be priced between ¥4-4.5 million in its home market, which translates to approximately $26,600-$30,000 at current exchange rates.
It won't be sold in the US. Even if it was, the pricing would end up higher than that.

So maybe read somewhere it would only be available in Japan?

Maybe true or false?

Anyone with an adventurous outdoor spirit has to despise these 10K paint jobs on competing "Adventure" vehicles. Worrying about your paint takes ALL the fun out of it.

Initial markets reportedly will be Japan, Southeast Asia, and Mexico.

If successful, it would likely be offered in other "emerging markets", like India, South America, or Africa. Highly unlikely that it will ever be offered in the US.

It will be made in Thailand. Sometimes American auto companies build low-cost vehicles in Mexico to keep the price down (like Ford with the Maverick). Japanese auto companies do the same thing with Thailand.

Almost definitely no I take it to my original question, but who cares, it’s been fun to hear everyone’s opinions about it.

The question was "Will the new Land Cruiser FJ cut into CT sales?"

A bigger question: does any vehicle (existing or future) really have the potential to cut into CT sales?

The CT has a unique and polarizing design: either you love it, or you hate it. If you love it, you probably aren't giving a lot of consideration to other vehicles. If you hate it, you probably aren't giving a lot of consideration to the CT. Either way, there is little or no cross-shopping or competition.

The CT isn't selling super well, but I don't think this is because other vehicles are "cutting into" CT sales. I think there just aren't enough people who (1) are in the "love it" category, and (2) can afford an $80,000 pickup.

I was an early x owner and it used to be the same. People would gawk at those doors and ask all sorts of questions and want to take photos with the car. Everyone with an f350 would give you the bird back then (it was before the world turned topsy turvy) and anyone who didn’t own one thought it was a stupid lavish buy. You some kind of hippy? Is something I heard more than once. You know how much you’re gonna pay for that battery? They used to say.
Now it’s a conservative gold standard choice for a premium family car.
Viewed through the lens of decades rather than months, I think people will accept the Cybertruck.
The x was ugly until its function made it beautiful to me and I feel the same way about the truck
Form follows function and that’s beautiful. Eventually everyone comes around.

Mostly just looking for a reason to hear opinions about this thing.
I think it kind of looks like a rehashed Honda Element.
it’s obviously not a direct competitor by any means but there are people who buy cybertrucks who I think might be interested in these.
Absolutely fucking not!

#1- It’s fugly!!! I’m more confident than ever that my ‘14 FJ will be worth six figures before I die. That I could sell it right now for what I paid for it 10 years ago is insane! This monstrosity will only make it more cherished.

#2 - This goofy bastard won’t even be sold in the US.

It was so simple all Toyota had to do was with the advancements in tech and what have you actually build the concept version of the FJ that they launched two decades ago. That would’ve been a worthy update!

Just square this one off a little bit and give it a modern power train and capabilities. DONE!

I want to point out that you just used fucking as punctuation counselor.

I love those FJ’s. The wrong people bought them when they were current. Weren’t intended as shopping mall commuters but they are super retro cool and feel like adventure when you drive them.

Unstoppable off-road and unlike jeeps very comfortable to drive on road. It’s no Cybertruck, but nothing is. The main Achilles heel to the CT is range and charging infrastructure.

My FJ gets similar to range except I can recharge it in a few seconds at gas stations all over the world! I am still currently unable to drive my CT to many places in Nevada and get back home.

The irony isn't lost on me that owners of a polarizing truck are calling another vehicle ugly.

But man that thing is ugly.

What’s this “irony” thing you’re talking about? Are we getting that in v15?
