Key advantage is that you can set up camp and drive away. No rooftop tent offers that.

It only takes 10 seconds to close our pano tent, and another 10 to open it back up.

i camp with my wife and dog, our daughter is too cool right now to come along. my evolution:

cybertent for 3k was cool. looks badass, no range hit. the space that it took in the truck perfectly highlighted space of the range extender vapor ware. setup seems like it takes longer than the peasant ground tents that I already own, and once its finally setup, the truck might as well be on blocks because you got an inflatable tent lashed to it.

so rtt was the way to go, but first you need a rack. urander seemed to be the most useful 2400. you might as well get an awning too right? 800-1200. tent was going to be the urander pano 2800 or the mars aeroblade 2999 or the urander yettobenamed 3.14. once the cap is on, yeah you can hoist it and the rtt off but does anyone really do that once its on? my garage also has a pretty low celing. the CT is my daily driver and I park in a parking garage. thats like 6500 of range sucking badassery. still have the “what to do to get to the trailhead problem” too. and someone is getting steamrollered if any overnight peeing needs to take place, also hopefully the steamroller doesnt break their neck going down the ladder.
I was willing to go here until today.

thule for 4600 seems like the best of all worlds - low range hit. one person quick deployment. bench height deck, dog can sleep under. drive to the trailhead? heck, you could drive to the bathrooms, back to camp and then to the camp store! once youre home, take the tent off, wheel it to the garage next to your thule folded bike rack in the corner.

drive to work in an unmodded, fully emptied cybertruck. done.

methinks im going to start the process to get my 100 deposit back from urander.

Perfectly logical argument. In my case would also mean not having to discard the cybertent because I could take both when camping with the kids.
No rack will allow that.

I assume yes. and I thought that I saw someone on this forum who somehow figured it out. im hoping sometime sooner rather than later that wireless cameras that transmit to a rear view mirror screen location become a thing and that those cams will be able to talk to fsd.

But both the rack and the bed cap let you use the 270° awning, which is perfect for summer, and the bed cap gives you nearly twice the space compared to the CyberTent in the bed

Also compelling. Tough decision. Still waiting with bated breath on that full sized tent. Really like the idea of the kids sleeping inside the bed and us on the top level as well.

Does anyone know what it takes to relocate the factory rear camera? I’m certain it is possible because certain designs like the cyberphoenix truckbed camper rely on the tailgate being permanently open.

Taping over the rear camera seems to allow FSD to engage. Manually closing the tailgate latches bypasses the open tailgate issue.

Relocating the camera requires an extension harness, solid mount point, and recalibration. I'm aware of one person who mounted it to a rack ~2.5 feet above the original position.

For me it’s about needing a second tent for the kids and not wanting to get rid of my cybertent.
Rtight now I use an inflatable ground tent but for dispersed camping, I’d rather be off the ground.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in on the thread. Have you seen the Cybertent set up with the Air Cruiser? They're even made at the same factory

now youre definitely not leaving camp unless you’ve got a chase car haha!

The tree house setup is pretty cool but as I understand it the aircruiser sits pretty high off the roof because it’s about 7 or 8 inches packed on top of the mars front rack so it’s a little aerodynamically unfriendly.
was very intrigued with this setup too for a while because I already have a cybertent.
@EWELON is correct this would anchor you fairly solidly to camp.
That said, it has a lot of advantages too. Mainly, everybody is sleeping off the ground.
