So they’re making the switch back to ccs on the turnpike just as the industry is switching to nacs? Wow. Guess I’m eating at Wawa and not Sbarro anymore haha.
My understanding is, Tesla wouldn’t do revenue sharing with the state of New Jersey, but this other company will. Follow the money…

What I've gathered is that the travel plaza services, food, gas, everything were put out for competitive bid; and AppleGreen from Ireland won. So, they work with vendors to provide services like McD's or Starbucks. Since they get a cut and NJ gets a cut, things are expensive.

Apparently, Tesla didn't offer them the cut they wanted, so they've been kicked out. AppleGreen is apparently charging users 59c/kWh, up in Connecticut, about 50% more than Tesla had been charging. Based upon that, you can imagine what they were asking Tesla for.

Will the state step in? I dunno, they apparently will get a cut from AppleGreen on everything, including EV charging, so they have an incentive to let AppleGreen ripoff EV owners. Was Tesla paying NJ at these travel plazas? No idea, but we didn't see it in the electric costs.

I'm not optimistic that the state will step in. They probably have no idea what a difference in customer experience it will be to use AppleGreen vs Tesla superchargers.

I just drove up the NJ TPKE from the DE bridge (Exit 1) up to Rt 287 (Exit 10). There was at least one existing Tesla SC still operating in Hamilton, just before Exit 7 for 295. Weird that they chose to keep this one open. I had already exited and got back on, earlier to charge off the TPKE. What a hassle. Of course, it all depends on timing, but traffic still sucks, and exiting and returning is a complete waste of time.
I am so glad I got out of this horrible state. They do nothing but make your life Hell.

Playing Politics again, I find it very all very distasteful and yet it proves how illogical some of these decisions are made in government. So we have a American company building the most reliable charging system out there, but we are going to tear those out and put in a Irish based company with little or no background or record of service. Yeah....That makes total sense to me....

Sorry for the double Remarks here but according to Green Apple Map of the USA they only have 25 Units install or sites. Wow what a sample rate to base a decision on......

This is an incredible waste of resources....and bummer for the most common EV on the market. The rest of the chargers suck to work with. Walmart is also getting into the charger business with some vendor....I wish it was tesla because they are so easy!

Tesla tried to work with them, they didn't want that. Also, Tesla now sells superchargers. It would be smarter for Applegreen to buy the Tesla chargers that are already there rather than rip them out. Just add to the number of chargers and charge whatever rate they want. They're already there!

But then they can't tap those sweet NEVI funds for installing new chargers...

*sigh*

Another waste of taxpayer dollars in plain sight.

I hate to be the one to point this out but its the Government being greedy and Tesla trying to do the right thing and keep the Price down, Sorry but Kudos to them. Someone in that state should be voting a few people out for this decision. Its just nuts.

I wouldn't jump to political corruption every time I disagree with something. The State put out a bid notice. Green Apple won. Tesla didn't because, in part, their chargers don't work for everyone. NACS can work for everyone. Tesla Superchargers don't. Until that gets fixed, the government (for ALL the people) won't accept Tesla's bids.

Anyway, If I were a State (and think about if you were) and I was trying to maximize my budget, I would definitely incorporate a charging solution that netted money for the State.
