DESCRIPTION

New Wrangler® DuraTrac® RT delivers enhanced toughness and dependability to the rugged-terrain category

AKRON, Ohio, Sept. 25, 2023 – The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company today introduced the newest tire in the Wrangler® family: the Wrangler® DuraTrac® RT, an all-season on- and off-road tire engineered to take on tough terrain with strength and dependability.

Outfitted for light trucks and SUVs, the Wrangler DuraTrac RT is built with the strength of DuPont™ Kevlar® for protection against tread damage and a three-ply sidewall with Durawall® compound to help resist punctures, abrasions and cuts in rough, off-road conditions. With a Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake designation, the tire features better traction and control in winter weather conditions with a proven tread pattern that has more biting edges for enhanced grip.

“From summer off-roading to snowy on-road drives, the new Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac RT provides drivers with the power and versatility to take them where they want to go,” said Michiel Kramer, director of Product Marketing, Goodyear. “Engineered with a proven tread pattern featuring more biting edges for enhanced grip, this versatile tire can help drivers take on any road or trail in any weather condition – rain, snow or shine.”

The newest member of Goodyear’s Wrangler family, the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac RT is backed with a 50,000-mile (80,000 kilometer) treadwear limited warranty**. Available in 42 sizes, from 30 to 35 inches outside diameter, the Wrangler DuraTrac RT is compatible with a wide range of popular pick-up trucks and SUVs, including the Chevrolet Silverado and Tahoe, GMC Sierra and Yukon, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Super Duty and F-150, Ram 1500 and more.

The Wrangler DuraTrac RT includes:
  • Winter Weather-Worthy with a proven tread pattern that has more biting edges for enhanced grip on snowy surfaces and the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake designation.
  • Three-ply sidewall with Durawall® sidewall compound that helps resist punctures, abrasions and cuts in rough, off-road conditions.
  • DuPont™ Kevlar® that helps protect against tread damage on- and off-road providing confidence for your drive.

Online reviews are saying that they're okay for light snow, but not real snow. Guess I'll still be swapping out for winter tires half the year. (Edit) I guess there are other versions of this tire that aren't "Three Peak"?

Is there something new about this info that hasn’t be readily available off the sidewalls for a year?

also, while I know it’s the same make of tire from Goodyear, what’s up with the photos of the non-CT version of the tire? Co off Tesla website?

appears to be photos from Goodyear website, where they don’t sell this tire in the CT sizing (nor I suspect, in the CTs speed and weight ratings)

custom-made tire size, speed/weight, and tread pattern just for CT

Picture from Littleton, CO Cybertruck. Note “D” load range.
Compared to E load range, probably more comfortable ride characteristics due to less material in the tire, 8 ply versus 10 ply for E.

Looks like a decent compromise tire.

It's my understanding that tires like this are formulated for OEMs to be sold as OEMs parts, so they have a wheel size range limited to those that have already been released by the various OEMs that contracted them. The tire company will work with the OEM to provide a tire that has a handling and ride performance specific to the vehicle and OEM requirements. It's not to say that they're the best tire, but it's what the OEM wants the customer to experience when they drive it for the first few 10k miles. Any sizes currently being sold are already OE on some other trucks

Tirerack.com now lists the CT in their website, and shows six tires “matched” for it , but none of them are speed rated better than S (112 mph).

As far as I can tell, the only tires meeting the CT’s performance specifications are the OE ones from Tesla. I hope they offer the highway tire we’ve seen.

I really really hope they don’t restrict this tire to tesla direct. Imagine needing a new one in a rural area.
If I lived in a rural area I’d buy a tire from Tesla ahead of time, just in case.

they will - it’s what their media-reported range is based on

they’re just not offering them yet either for supply chain reasons, marketing reasons (they want early CTs seen in ‘fulldress’), or both

but the highway Pirelli ELECTs I imagine may be pricey too, as Pirelli is also custom-making those in CT sizes/specs/sidewall patterns

Yep that’s all they have in their Cybertruck recommendations. Maybe most CB owners won’t actually drive over 112 mph and be relatively safe with S-rated tires.
