I have not lost a cover, but don't go through the car wash either. I would avoid automatic track car washes!

BUT, if you don't have the CENTER snapped in you probably could lose a cover. The outer clips are easy to get snapped in. But the center can require a second push to make sure it's secure. I got my tires rotated at a tire shop while traveling, and the shop did not get one of them snapped in the middle of the cover. I always check.

Be sure that they aren’t just attached to the wheel spokes but the center as well. You have to really punch the center and hear that snap. If the center isn’t super secure, then the spoke clips may not be secure enough to hold it down. Sometimes you really have to hit the center hard to hear it pop into place. My Tesla mobile tech showed me and he was very clear on that.
A rubber mallet helps, particularly the center hub.

Suggest not pounding (using excessive force) the center portion of the wheel cover as this will cause the plastic retaining clip(s) to break off. A firm push of the center is enough to clip it in place.

100%. A strong push works - you can hear the 'click' - I push with my rubber shoes.

I worry about non-Tesla shops putting these covers back on! But my nearest Tesla ship is 120 miles. Makes it a tough decision.

Has anyone had their wheel covers pop off?

I lost one in the carwash, which I retrieved. Lost another parking when the front wheel barely touched the curb. Lost another somewhere unbeknownst to me.

At $75/cover (when they're in stock), that can get expensive. Is it the way I installed them... or is this common? My feeling is that Tesla should go back to the drawing board and rethink the design.
My passenger side rear cover has popped off twice, and it happened when bumping a small curb at the exit to my parking garage, which was barely noticeable. Just the right nudge and this one comes off cleanly. Obviously trying to avoid this curb that seems exactly the right height to pop it off.

I'm surprised to see that many losing their aero covers which made me think that, is it all possible that they are not installing them correctly?
I think if the mounting ring is not fully clipped (like in this video at 0:36), then it could be possible for it to detach. Also, if the center hub of the outer cover is not fully snapped in or it is not fully attached to the mounting ring (0:58s in the video), maybe it could also contribute to detachment?

Exactly. There is a strong possibility that people not installing them correctly.

Too many fake posts here, trying to create the impression of a problem. They did this back in 2018 when the Model 3 was released too.

People are gullible to just take everyone at face value. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a few people have lost one by now, but they are almost certainly due to improper installation or freak impact.

I have had my truck since November and I kept hearing a rattle. I took off the wheel covers (for the first time) and all 4 covers had broken plastic clips? this normal? Nothing other than city miles. No damage

I haven’t had issues with mine. (Of course, I have always removed them when I wash the truck and ensure they are completely attached once I finish washing the truck.)

I tried to check tire pressures just now and holy moly ya gotta pull the wheel cover to check pressure! I tried to pull the cover per video/manual: can't budge it. Now what? Pay someone, to check my tire pressures? Unacceptable, my first serious design beef in 7+ years of Tesla ownership. BTW, on my Model 3, wheel covers fell off, unless hub was pre-lubricated. On the 3, tire pressures are accessible w/o taking the car apart.

1 of mine just was broke by American Tire tech after filling up air. Should I just keep them off? Is it bad for our range?

Only time lost one was in one of those pull through car washes as the alignment rail will pop usually the front left one off if not far enough to right or its just flat out not wide enough for the tire and the cover.

Other than that, mine stay aligned just fine, and clipped on well. I always align mine up, then push one side in, then an opposit, then an opposit again until all the way around, and make sure that the middle then really clicks in. Haven't had any issues.
