Spontaneous glass roof cracking

Cyberbeast hour drive in full sun pulled into garage and roof glass crack lines appeared on one side, no collision , Glass was max dark tinted on inside in August right after vehicle delivery. SC won’t see it until end of November on late appointment. I’ve read about roof glass being covered by Tesla but I’m reaching out to see if glass was covered or denied having aftermarket tint.

Yeah, it seems like if you only tint the inside, it has a high likelihood of cracking.

You can tint the outside using tinted PPF, or both sides to reduce the chance of cracking.

There's no real evidence the tint was the source of the breakage, and Tesla would be required to demonstrate that was the source of damage. Although in practice that's not so easy.

Since it's going to take so long for them to get to it, could you remove the tinting to make it easier for them to repair?

I once had a tent guy told me not the tint the Roof of my M3 because it could crack. I don’t know how true that was.

have your shoppe remove the tint then bring to the SC.

I was thinking about this....the heat that comes through the roof is intense when the sun is out. Also, Tesla sent out a email about their authorized tint company that they will cover under warranty. If it didn't need to be tinted why would Tesla endorse it?

Did the email include the roof? Or just the windows, windshield?

It included the roof. I have been on the fence to have tint install on all windows because of the Texas sun because it gets toasty inside. When I clicked on the link to check out pricing it gave the option for all the windows except the windshield.

Because they only use approved tints?

If you follow the Xpel link, it specifically excludes the windshield and roof. It also only covers the tint not the glass.

My CT glass roof cracked without any impact, no tint but parked outside on early summer sun.
The Tesla service tech guy said it may be my fault, as the ring on the finger might have hit on the glass!. I have called the customer counter person, he said it is a defective glass and covered under the warranty. It was less than 750 miles on it when it happened!

jesus.... yea ill probably leave it untinted...at least for a bit. We'll see how hot things get without it.
