I like it and think they made some good design choices. Wife wouldn't want one and I wouldn't get one over my Cyber beast but if I needed a 4th vehicle it looks like it could be a good Colorado ride.

I think the Scouts will be Rivian killers
The Scouts seem like serious competition for the Rivian R1S and R1T -- except for one thing. Their scheduled availability is 2027.

Rivian plans to launch their next-generation models, the R2 and R3, in 2026. The R2 and R3 are lower-priced models that are intended to outsell the older R1S and R1T -- just as Tesla's lower-priced Model 3 and Model Y now outsell the older Model S and Model X. That's the plan anyway.

If Rivian's plan succeeds, then by 2027, the old R1S and R1T should no longer be critical to their success -- just as the old Model S and Model X are no longer critical to Tesla's success.

So Rivian may not be too concerned about the apparent potential competition. They accepted funding from VW, while knowing that VW was developing the Scout. They are probably gambling that by 2027, their market niche will have changed and the Scout will not be a threat.

Gasoline range extender. I just don't understand this whole range anxiety thing. There are chargers everywhere now and 300 miles of range is what we've been getting in our trucks and cars for decades. Now you have to haul around a gas generator to alleviate the fear that the oil industry manufactured to make you afraid of EVs? ? Who's more stupid, the people who live in fear of being stranded or the car manufacturers who are selling a solution to a fear that doesn't exist and that they created?

I feel a range extender does make a lot of sense if you are marketing to off-roaders. I have seen videos with the Cybertruck off-roading where they had to stop before reaching the peak of a mountain because they hit 50% charge and needed charge to return home.

Yeah, I'm good with a range extender too - is it needed 95% of the time for me = no (and that drives concern on reliability with ethanol gas and infrequent duty cycle), but the 5% of the time (camping deep in Co mountains, taking dirt bikes to Wyoming, road trips) it would come in handy. Is it worth it, only you can decide, but they made it optional so everyone is happy! I'd buy a frunk mounted range extender if it were offered (battery or ICE), wont buy the use the bed battery pack because I need the full bed for dirt bikes and truck things.

If Rivian succeeds, there have been a lot of financial problem talks. I guess we'll see.

If you are going UP a mountain, then why do you need to turn around at 50%?

I'm sold on it, BOF is where my heart resides. IF they can keep to the price estimate (long shot based on literally every manufacturer in the last 3 years)
A lot of things can happen in 3 years but they’re clearly betting on lower battery costs. If an ICE Bronco is $60k today it seems dubious that an EV “scout” would be $60k in three years with similar technical specs. No doubt the pricing will change.

It’s stupid because they know perfectly well plenty of performance ICE vehicles also only run about 250 miles before hitting the fuel light … the people giving the 500 mile range inputs are almost certainly driving budget vehicles and aren’t even the targeted demographic. The Scout demo are driving 15-17 mpg Ford Broncos that get at best 300 miles of range ??‍♂

For someone who use CT like a soccer mom or Walmart grocery hauler - range is not an issue.

Or for someone who has not been to Idaho, Montana, Alberta and BC.

It could be a minority who do long road trips, outdoors people or those who spend trips to multiple work sites.

And if you are not one of them, or not interested, then the better stance it's nanya. :p

What is the correct percent to return at? 50% is guaranteed to get you back, anything less is a risk.

I did think of that as well, definitely a niche market though. You could get the extra battery for your CT, or, if you packed solar panels, and you didn't have to be back to work anytime soon, theoretically you could keep going out into the wilderness indefinitely, where as a gas car, has a definite limit. I wonder though, if you were at 50% near the top of a mountain, you probably could keep going, because regen braking and zero energy use on the way down.

It’s more like the spawn of Rivian and Bronco.
Or with bull/brush guard and promised winch, the 'ol Land Rover Defender.

I watched a video on YouTube and I am sold.

Remaining question is if it will come out autonomous. And hope they will not reinvent the wheel and just buy-lease the system from Google/Waymo. I no longer believe Tesla can achieve full autonomous very soon.

And in my wish list, a hefty capabilities for a slide-in truck camper.
