I guess another question is whether or not the CT already had a way for the mice to get access or if they made (chewed) a path to get access. If it's the latter it would be nice to seal up whatever path they made, but who knows if I could ever find it.
Like I mentioned earlier, Tesla found the point of entry on our CB through the rubber seal around the brake pedal at the firewall

My CT just got out of the shop, had about $5k in rodent damage to the interior and low and high voltage cables. They came in through the brake pedal firewall seal, and chewed through a bunch of wires and insulation, and carpets. They ate through 8 speakers and made nest everywhere. All this happened while we were on vacation during thanksgiving. My insurance covered it all under comprehensive coverage. Truck had to be towed as it wouldn’t even turn on. Was terrible
How were you gone on vacation for mice to do that much damage

I've had my CT for over 18 months. Yesterday, I noticed what I thought looked like mouse activity inside the truck (chewed my daughter's car seat). So last night I put in a couple traps. This morning there was a mouse in one of the traps. How could a mouse possibly get into the truck? Seals look fine, I don't keep the doors or windows open. It's really bizarre to me. Any ideas how a mouse could gain access?
were vehicles parked inside a garage or outside ??

Don’t know, a mouse got into our garage one night that we left garage door open by accident. We left on vacation for a week, got back and attempted to take our vehicles out of the garage to bring down Christmas decorations and discovered the damage.

You’re lucky… because for the second time I’ve had my Beast (Blitzen) in the shop due to rodent damage.

Last time it was the wiring harness and a $1,400 surprise gift that Santa definitely didn’t ask for. And here’s the wild part: they weren’t former rats… they were still inside the truck when I brought it in. The techs literally caught two of them. 🎯🐀

So here’s the deal: we’re not “dirty people.” We live out in the country—trees, pastures, horses, barn… and yes, reindeer (it’s a long story). We’ve dealt with “tree rat” issues before. It comes with the territory.

What makes Blitzen a target? She's been hit twice, parked right next to a Porsche, a Vette, and a Grand Cherokee… and the sports cars haven’t moved in a year with zero rodent drama. The best theory we’ve got is this:

  • We use Tesla Power and charge overnight (free window 12:00 AM–12:00 PM)
  • Warm truck + quiet garage + no activity = Rodent Airbnb
  • Add “maybe” soy-based wire insulation or cozy materials and suddenly it’s a full-blown toga party under the panels.
Fix / what we did:

  • Installed ultrasonic devices in the frunk and vault
  • Hung peppermint repellents in both locations
  • Hired a rat specialist to deal with the colony (not in the house—out in the surrounding woods)
  • Sealed entry points around the house/garage and now we’re militant about keeping doors closed
I haven’t shared this before because it feels embarrassing… but according to our Tesla techs, it’s not rare at all. They see plenty of rodent damage, and it can get expensive fast—so please beware and take precautions early.

Also: I’ve ordered a special “Rat Exterminator Award” for our service department because they went way above and beyond trying to track this down and repair it. Photos of the presentation ceremony will be forthcoming. 😄🏆

Guard your investment, and guard your wiring, friends.

The brake pedal seal makes perfect sense for rodents to enter the cab.

I was thinking the air vents that release air pressure when shutting the doors on the back of the BIW. They are located behind the rear seat.

Come to think of it, they ended up having to replace those vents as well. So maybe the rodents on my CB had entered through those to

I have placed these into all of the family vehicles (Front and trunk) now:

much cheaper than the repair costs or insurance deductibles.

Same issue in RVs. I am using Peppermint oil which appears to be working.

Sorry about the problem, but glad insurance covered it. And THANK YOU for answering the OP's question.
