I just submitted a service request and have a Mobile Service appointment for 06/27. Will report back any information.

ETA: The EPC lists the charger part as up to Gen 5 now.

Update:

- Tesla Service messaged me saying there was nothing that could be done about the overheating issue and they closed the ticket
- I messaged back, mentioned that I’d heard there was a substantially revised part that addressed the overheating issue
- They messaged back, acknowledged there was a new part, and reopened the ticket.
- Cost Estimate: $0.00

This is why I like this forum, we all share and learn, often before the actually SC’s at large.

Ok. So at my last appointment with the Service Center... I told them my biggest complaint about my wonderful truck was that the charger burnt up my phone... they looked at me like I was crazy and didn't say it, but implied that I was the first person to make my complaint and then told me they put their phone on the charger while doing the other service issues and that it worked perfect.... but now I just need to ask for a replacement via the app!? That would make me so freaking happy!

The SC asked me to specify what phone I was charging, so this might be a sign it’s possibly a model or brand specific issue. It does it to both my wife’s and mine though, and both are different models, but both Apple.

For me they were like…meh…okay…what was that part number again?

Excellent! Was about to attempt disconnect as I was using my cup holder to hold my phone, due in heat levels and minimal charge benefit.

What did you say in the service appointment request?

I'm thinking of listing the part number and just telling them what happens: the wireless charger always overheats my phone to the point where it doesn't charge much at all.

Happy if this works. But isn’t this like the wrong solution? The unit is over heating so let’s build more cooling ? Why not have a solution that doesn’t make heat ? Hmmm. I think I have seen such a thing. My iPhone never heats when I use the wireless MagSafe charger each night. Cause the magnets ensure the induction circuits are lined up - misalignment causes the heat no? What’s next? Route water cooling to the unit for gen 6?

The heatsink is just all we can see. The board may very well have been updated or the spacing to the coils reduced, too. I don't see any ventilation holes in the center console and if there is no air moving across the heatsink, it won't do much good except for about 30 seconds. So I suspect there is more to it than fins on the enclosure.
