Huh, now that you say it, I think the navigation data and algorithms could be the root of many problems.

I regularly find myself disengaging FSD or ‘ending trip’ to avoid terrible routing and foolish turns. And the speed limit data is wrong way too often, causing me to disengage way too many times for speeding when it zooms past 30 or 45 in a 15 or 25, or stepping on the accelerator when it suddenly decides to go 30 in a 70. (My new mantra is ‘give me back my speed control wheel’ as I find the speed profiles woefully inaccurate, frustrating, annoying and often dangerous, which translates to far more disengagements and a lot less enjoyable FSD use).

I know Tesla has its own system, but both Google Maps and Apple Maps seem to have way WAY better routing and almost always correct speed limit data. (Yeah, I know almost every post says speed is set by GIS data but then why is it usually right in Google and Apple but wrong in my CT?)

Autonomous driving might be a lot closer if they’d fix the map, routing algorithms and speed limit data. I suspect they‘ve invested a lot of energy getting the maps and speed limits fixed in Austin and SF, so they don’t actually understand the problem outside of their own bubbles, or that not everyone lives in an urban area.
Agreed, they have invested a lot of time and energy into making Austin and SF because Tesla has and utilizes a bunch of Fleet Validation Vehicles. These vehicles are the ones where Legacy Media quickly posts to their sites claiming Tesla still needs and uses Lidar. However, as the name suggests, these vehicles are used to ensure accuracy against depth perception and measurements.

Which brings me to this point: My guess is, in order for Teslas to operate flawlessly in each city, Tesla needs to do two things: crowd source map info - just like Waze - and utilize their Fleet Validation Vehicles in every major city - not towns or suburbs. It's evident FSD can handle simple to difficult scenarios. However, cities have much higher probability for edge cases to occur.

As for map data, Tesla currently pulls info from Open Street Map. I know this because I had issues with FSD thinking the entrance to my apartment complex didn't exist. I manually added a two-way lane from the main street to the inner round-about at my apartment complex. Now, whenever I tap "Home", my pin drop is located within the round-about closest to the garage entrance.

With speed it's more tricky. I'll give you an example: Between Vancouver and Whistler there's a hwy called Sea-To-Sky. Within this stretch of the hwy, there's a section that's 60 km/h - yes metric, I know, lolz - unfortunately, once that stretch ends, it still keeps at 60 km/h when it's supposed to be 90 km/h. I have to keep my vehicle in MadMax mode during this entire stretch - which is ridiculous. I tried to edit but for some reason, the speed edits don't work. So at this moment, I have found a way to add/remove/edit a certain path, but not the speed. If anyone else knows how to change what speed the vehicle pulls, please let us know.

EDIT: Tesla vehicles cannot read signs. The vision-only system uses pattern recognition - ie. School Zone signs - then adjusts appropriately.

So my app finally says it’s time to download the update. I really like the update on our model x. Is it a good idea to keep the truck not connected to wi-fi to postpone installing it on the CT? Is it likely to brick my FSD abilities?

I wish they could offer software updates without killing your battery while you have you vehicle parked at the airport. This is the second time I’m gonna come home to a sub 10% battery because tesla offers a software update while I’m out of town.
Did you share your calendar with Tesla corporate so they schedule updates according to your calendar availability?

Mine won’t download unless on WiFi and it won’t do so automatically, I have to click install
Updates download automatically on WiFi, sometimes even on cellular if an update addresses critical issues, it's installation that you have to start manually. If you see a message in your app that a software update is available - it has been already download to your Tesla. I'm not sure "Advanced" setting in software does anything, some say it does, others it doesnt

IIRC from when GreenTheOnly described how Tesla does updates, when your app shows that software is downloading, the progress before 50% is the actual download task, at 50% progress the car already downloaded the entire package and performing validation for staging, at 100% everything is downloaded and staged for install.

I had a CT loaner and it was already on 14.2.2.1 The lane change hesitation was still there, though it was a little better. The sad part is my CT was in for service and had a software update available, but I got it home 5 days ago and the update was no longer there and I have not had anything since v14.2.1 and v12 (2025.38.9.6 10bd3d618e72).
