wondering how the drive would be from Boca raton to Long island in the cyber... it would take a bunch of more hours than driving a gas car.... has anyone here done the drive? How long did it take?
thank you

Use a better route planner, or rough ballpark about 30% longer total travel time vs VERY fast stops at gas stations.

Common sense, stopping to charge up vs stopping for gasoline... I just wanted to hear from people if it was worth it or not...

Depend depends on how much of a rush you are in. And I guess which vehicle you want on the other side of the destination. If you’re not in a massive rush and it’s a leisurely drive where you stop overnight at hotels, to get a bite to eat, etc, then CT. If it’s about time, then definitely the gas vehicle.

Some hotels have free charging so you can charge up overnight which doesn’t cost you any time if you were stopping anyway.

I've done 1,000+ mile road trips in the Cybertruck, and there's not a chance I'd do them in anything other than a Tesla w/FSD at this point. Any 'time lost' you might perceive by using Superchargers is offset by comfort IMO.

As for cost, with the price of gasoline these days, a long road trip costs ABOUT the same as using superchargers - but (pro-tip) just get a referral or two each year and your supercharger costs are basically completely offset ;)

Pay attention to the kwh on each Supercharger - skip the 150s completely, aim for 325s

I forgot to mention I am bringing my 9 month old puppy with me to long island, so it will not be easy with him... bathroom stops etc.

The 150 kW Superchargers are good if you want to order some fast-food nearby, the higher kW Superchargers are often done charging before your food order is up and that could require you to move the Cybertruck before eating.

We have found travelling with a dog and EVs go together like peanut butter and jelly. The dog appreciates every charge stop and arrives to our destination in a better mood than trying to power through with fewer stops.

I would drive the Cybertruck just to have FSD on a long trip. Plenty of Superchargers near I95.
^ 1,000% this. Long distance with most Tesla's can add probably 10-15% of time to the trip depending on your travel habits. Arriving to your destination with FSD driving the whole way is night and day difference.

Having just driven a rental Ford Expedition for the last 2 weeks with very poor adaptive cruise control and lane centering, and having done MANY 1000+ mile trips in Tesla's as far back as 2017, there's no comparison. Take the Tesla!

Another pro-tip: Break your trip up into a couple of days. That way, you can charge overnight in a hotel for free and eliminate a charge stop. It also makes the trip more enjoyable since you don't have to do it all in one day. BTW, there are plenty of pet-friendly hotels with destination chargers.

I would be more concerned about the parking situation once in Long Island; evaluate how parking spaces are positioned for the CT; I have found that some underground garages are more tolerate to compact and mid-sized cars.

I have driven Teslas back and forth from Tampa Bay to Canada more than 30 times roundtrip in the past few years. Many of those trips have been with my wife in convoy in her ICE car. Many have also been with our two large dogs. My wife and I leave at the same time in the morning and go at our own pace throughout the day. We are very rarely more than 30-45 minutes apart at the end of the day.

If I do the trip alone, I do it in 2 fifteen hour days. Together, we'll do it in 3 ten hour days. Canada is about 10 hours (including charging stops) further than Long Island.

Teslas and FSD are essential requirements for those long drives as far as I'm concerned. I can't stand driving the old-fashioned cars on long trips now. The charging stops are not, in my experience, more frequent nor any longer than gas refills and stretch breaks.

Setting aside the wholly superior Tesla FSD experience, the only practical difference between an EV road trip and a gas one is that you have to plan the end of your day to ensure that you have enough electrons to get to the next charger in the morning (while keeping the phantom Sentry Mode bleed in mind).
