Are you guys aware that your personal Tesla is uploading telemetry after every drive you take, and that dataset is being tossed into dojo for further training? FSD is learning on real world data.

That's NOT a model of the world. That's just scanned in data and Tesla representing the positions of known objects in a 3D engine. The model is a representation of the world logically (not physically) and being able to predict future behavior. You see a giant semi driving beside you - you UNDERSTAND it throws rocks and air pressure differences will possibly move your vehicle so you move a lane over. It's unlikely to see you also so it's best to stay a distance away.

Tell you what, I think I saved a clip from the dashcam where my CT performed real-time path tracing for a pedestrian that was crossing a multi-parted crosswalk. It clearly made a decision to stop and wait for them, even though it was technically clear to proceed.

That's closer to having a model but that's just an LLM being taught not to crash into objects. That's just path prediction which just like pathfinding - not true AI, no model needed.

There's no real godfather of AI (it's an old field that has existed since the 60s with many failures... in the 80s it was overhyped - before my time) but the grandaddy of ML is Hinton. I worked in his AI lab as undergrad and though computer vision and NN were a joke (how wrong I was lol).

I feel ML is a repeat of the 80s AI hype... overpromised and underdelivered. The current ML LLM systems are amazing but for limited uses. Still no model theory or knowledge databases.

I understand. Even the vlogger guy says “a godfather.” I just take it to mean he’s somebody who’s opinion should not be discounted because he’s put in the work.

I don't think you know what AGI is, but Elon doesn't think it's AGI. Even though he called it mini or baby-AGI, once. He also said on JRE that once a company achieves AGI, it will change the world. He said he think Tesla could be first. He said it could come as soon as 2026, but he was iffy on that timeline.

AGI is defined as the hypothetical intelligence of a machine that possesses the ability to understand or learn any intellectual task that a human being can.

Basically AGI is sentient. It can make corrections, write it's own code, figure out problems, and exponentially expand on those. FSD nor Grok, and certainly not both combined are doing that and we don't have a timeline of them doing that. AI talking does not equal AGI. THat's an insane leap. Alexa, SIri, Gemini, Meta's Llama have been speaking for years. Grok speaks now. That's an irrelevant aspect. AGI needs to be able to reason, know that it's a computer, that it exist. Some don't even believe AGI is possible...which is why some bastardize the term to really advanced usage of AI.

No one in AI considers Tesla AGI. It was mocked when Elon called it baby AGI. Karpathy said he understands why Elon said that even if it's not actually AGI.

Humans can’t write their own code, or figure out problems and exponentially expand on those. Nor or they sentient in regards to their actual code set. We don’t actual know what we are, nor do we fully comprehend the state space we are embedded within. Our awareness is simply a basic modeling of a comprehensible reality. We call whatever is actually going on under the hood the unconscious for a reason. Consciousness, to use the term as Thomas Nagle does, is a black box. We simply don’t know enough to know what, or even how, we should ascribe general intelligence. There is a gigantic diversion of opinions and even definitions in the AI space.

Humans are without doubt confined to very narrow aperture when it comes to recognizing intelligence or even self organization. We see our own bias. In effect, we see the limitations of our basic models. It is not helpful to say we can recognize any intelligence when we don’t even understand our own.

This is the most exciting aspect of AI systems. They give us the potential to understand understanding. Early returns indicate we are not so special as we believe. Experiment indicates that some manner of agency goes all the way down. It isn’t helpful to just assume you understand something that nobody understands. That is a local optimum at best.

Edit: I’m not an AI expert. My expertise (such as it is) in this area is in Philosophy of Mind. These are musings and should be understood as such.

Friend, you are mistaken. What you are seeing on the MCU is the real-time feed of what FSD is rendering, labeling, predicting, and acting upon. None of it is pre-mapped. It does it live as it sees it. Which is why Tesla is (so far) is going to be the only one to be able to truly scale this worldwide.

Um ... Are you not aware that a Tesla on FSD will generally scoot over to the opposing edge of the of the lane when near a semi specifically because it knows about the pressure wave disturbing the smoothness of the drive; or the fact that semi-trucks tend to sway often due to wind gusts?

wut? not sure what you mean by this. LLMs are specific Ai models built on the tenets of human language, and have little or nothing to do with Ai models that perform general tasks like driving.
