Elon Musk on the future of the Cybertruck (in Q4 earnings call):

“We will transition the Cybertruck to a fully autonomous line. There is obviously a market there for cargo delivery— localized cargo delivery. An autonomous Cybertruck could be useful for that.”

Lars Moravy (VP of Vehicle Engineering at Tesla) said that the Cybertruck line is flexible and can be changed to other products, but reminded everyone that it remains the best selling EV truck and competitors are leaving the competitive space.

Spitballing here but my ears wanted to here I'm getting unsupervised FSD at some point...lol
If they deploy CyberTrucks as autonomous delivery vehicles, that is a given.
Autonomous FSD will need to be on it..

Yep that was my thinking. I'd be happy with that.

This is what I thought the short lived RWD Cybertruck was being positioned for, fleet and autonomous delivery. Last mile small load deliveries to small business locations would be a great fit.

CT seems far away from the optimal format for an autonomous delivery vehicle. If there is a real market for that, it could be done better for less cost in both production and operation. So, that comment feels like grasping at straws to me: like selling a ton of CT to SpaceX.

Maybe with a cyber cap over the bed that turns it into a quasi transit van.

Agreed that the CT is completely the wrong form for an autonomous delivery vehicle.

Again sadly this, with the news of the S and X, speaks of how little effort Tesla is really putting into cars right now while chasing rainbows. I say sadly because personally I’m way more interested in drivable cars than autonomous vehicles. It’s also as if Tesla is just happy to give up the leading position they were on the verge of reaching.

Sounds like Cybertruck is done as we know it. It may live on for a tiny bit longer but clearly they're going to be transitioning it into something else.

I'm glad I got to experience the Cybertruck when I had the chance.

people don't know so much about Cybertruck except the polarized design-it's jam packed with Easter Eggs to explore! I'm glad it's not axed-my CT reservation is intact for a smaller CT.

I read that as the Cybertruck assembly line will be transitioning to an autonomous delivery platform line.

Hate to say it, but I feel a little bit duped. Instead of making the CT better (longer range) it sounds like they are giving up on it. The truck was built to do things like go off road and tow, but now Tesla is acting like the future is a FSD a robo-truck. It if they aren’t selling that well now, just wait until it obvious it’s a being abandoned. We just all bought Tesla’s version of the Ford Lighting :(

The Cybertruck was the best selling EV truck in 2024, but not in 2025 (#2 behind Ford Lightning)

And competitors aren't leaving. Ford didn't cancel the Lightning, they are retooling to bring it back to market as an EREV. And new players -- like Ram, Slate, Scout, and Kia -- will enter the EV truck market in 2026-2027.
