I’m just waiting for “cantrail glue 2.0”

Tesla needs something to compete with the Rivian R2 & R3.OK, you could look at it that way. Today, it's easy to think of the CT as a "high-cost, low-volume" option (like the S/X). But alternatively, the CT could be considered an attempt at a "low-cost, high-volume" option (like the 3/Y) that just failed to meet those goals.
But either way, the bottom line is that Tesla currently doesn't have a "low-cost, high-volume" EV pickup. And to be fair, neither does anyone else. But someone will fill the gap someday.
not really. no one really competes with Subaru. that’s the small end of the market. Tesla wants to be the Camry, Corolla and Rav4 - of BMW 3 series, 5 series, X3 and X5.Tesla needs something to compete with the Rivian R2 & R3.
Interesting take. I think it may be more relevant to mass market appeal. The 3 and the y fill a niche similar to the one filled by the Camry and RAV4. Affordable, attainable, and easy to live with. Pragmatist may say, “it’s like I’m getting a low maintenance vehicle like a RAV4, but I’m also saving on gas and maintenance costs, and helping lower emissions, so a win win win in the long run” and that sells itself. A triangle shaped Tron vehicle from the future does not signal any of that. And I’m 110% ok with that, because I love this thingnot really. no one really competes with Subaru. that’s the small end of the market. And how Tesla will attach the offroad lightbar on "Cybertruck 2" ?I’m just waiting for “cantrail glue 2.0”
This actually looks really cool.Adding some different SS style lines would make for an easy exterior refresh. 2030 Cybertruck?
This new crease would also eliminate any door/mirror fluttering at high speeds since it’s no longer a flat panel.

I firmly believe Rivian isn’t going to be around much longer. They are basically Fisker 2.0.Tesla needs something to compete with the Rivian R2 & R3.

In theory, Tesla already has something to compete with the R2: the Model Y. Both are marketed as mid-sized SUVs. It's true that the R2 has a more traditional, boxy, "SUV look", and it will likely perform better off-pavement. If Tesla wanted to respond, they could maybe develop a MY variant with a boxier shape and higher ground clearance. Somehow that doesn't seem like a vehicle that would appeal to Elon though.not really. no one really competes with Subaru. that’s the small end of the market. It all depends on the R2 -- and they will be around long enough to start selling R2s.I firmly believe Rivian isn’t going to be around much longer. They are basically Fisker 2.0.
We’ve posted a wishlist of tweaks we like to see in a few refreshes:I think a 2028-2029 refresh is likely with:
- updated battery cells = lower weight and longer range
- updated motors = more power and torque while being more efficient
- new tires = more efficient compound, like with the new Y
- maybe contrast color seats, a lighter interior color option
anything else, like the terrestrial armor, is coming via accessories and I expect to see more options here as time goes on
IMHO. With the tax breaks gone. Rivian is dead.It all depends on the R2 -- and they will be around long enough to start selling R2s.
If the R2 is a hit, Rivian lives. If not, Rivian dies, and VW scoops up the scraps. We will know a year from now.

One extra thought, R2 can be a hit and they can still fail. It needs to be a profitable hit for the company to succeed. It all depends on the R2 -- and they will be around long enough to start selling R2s.

Actually, the loss of the $7,500 federal tax credit may not be a big blow to Rivian -- because 2025 Rivians weren't eligible for it anyway. Their battery sourcing didn't meet the requirements.IMHO. With the tax breaks gone. Rivian is dead.
Yeah, I mostly agree, Tesla will do small upgrades as tech gradually improves, but the actual appearance is too iconic to touch for many years. It's a great truck as-is, so no compelling reason to do anything but remove cost without getting rid of the signature exoskeleton that is nearly impossible to damage without actually getting in a real accident.I think a 2028-2029 refresh is likely with:
